The 2012 Tony Awards opened with a musical number featuring host Neil Patrick Harris that lovingly highlighted (and poked some gentle fun at) elements of live theater.

Harris’ opening included singing, dancing, and appearances by Amanda Seyfried, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Mary Poppins!

It closed with a simple message: “If life were more like theater, life wouldn’t suck so much!”
