Tomorrowland Beats Pitch Perfect 2 At Memorial Day Box Office [UPDATED]
Tomorrowland has beaten out Pitch Perfect 2 for the number 1 spot at the box office Memorial Day weekend with a four-day total of $41.7 million. The George Clooney sci-fi adventure film easily edge out the Anna Kendrick musical comedy, which had a four-day total of $38.5 million. Pitch Perfect 2, which Gossip Cop earlier reported had the biggest musical box office opening ever last week, has crossed the $125 million threshold of total tickets since its opening.
Max Max: Fury Road, bolstered by overwhelmingly positive reviews and media buzz, took third place, grossing $32.1 million for the extended weekend, with a cumulative gross of $95.5 million. The superhero blockbuster Avengers: Age of Ultron came in fourth place with a $27.8 million four-day holiday haul. And the Sam Rockwell horror film Poltergeist nabbed fifth place with a Memorial Day Weekend take of $26.5 million.
Coming in sixth place was the Reese Witherspoon/Sofia Vergara comedy Hot Pursuit with a $4.6 million gross through Monday. The romantic drama Far From The Madding Crowd came in seventh with $3 million. Furious 7 crossed the finish line at eighth with $2.8 million (and total cumulative gross of $347 million).
Rounding out the top 10 were the Kevin James comedy Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 with $2.5 million and the Rihanna kids film Home brought in $2.4 million. What did you see this holiday weekend?
