Tom Holland Cast As New Spider-Man
Tom Holland has just been cast as Spider-Man in Marvel’s Spider-Man reboot, slated to hit theaters in 2017. The 19-year-old British actor, who starred in The Impossible and can next be seen in Ron Howard’s In The Heart Of The Sea, beat out hundreds of other candidates who screen tested to play the superhero character. Following in the footsteps of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, Holland will be the third actor to portray the web-slinger on the big screen.
The new Spider-Man film is set to be directed by Jon Watts, an indie filmmaker taking on his first big-budget blockbuster with this upcoming comic book adaptation.
“It’s a big day here at Sony,” said Sony Chairman Tom Rothman. “I’ve worked with a number of up-and-coming directors who have gone on to be superstars and believe that Jon is just such an outstanding talent. For Spidey himself, we saw many terrific young actors, but Tom’s screen tests were special. All in all, we are off to a roaring start.”
On casting Holland, producer Amy Pascal added, “For Peter Parker, we had to find a vibrant, talented young actor capable of embodying one of the most well-known characters in the world. With Tom, we’ve found the perfect actor to bring Spider-Man’s story into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”
The next installment of the Spider-Man franchise is scheduled for a July 28, 2017 release date. Do you think Holland will make a good Spider-Man?
