Tom Hanks brought laughs and Jay Leno shed tears at Monday’s memorial service for Michael Clarke Duncan, who died on Labor Day after going into cardiac arrest earlier this summer.

It seems like Duncan was beloved by everyone with whom he worked in Hollywood, and Hanks, his The Green Mile co-star, celebrated his friend with an amusing story about Duncan’s (very) brief stint with a gang as a kid in Chicago.

An emotional Leno, meanwhile, lamented Duncan’s passing and what “might have been” had he lived.

    Both nice stories, I love the combination of laughter and tears. That is what I wish all memorials would be like. Michael was such a wonderful sweet man.

    I am usually not to effected when a celebrity dies.But something about Michael Clarke Duncan’s death made me very sad. Maybe because he seemed like a lovable big guy. Tom Hanks story was really funny and sweet. I could not careless about Leno but his comments were heart felt. I was sad at first that they cancelled the TV show the Finder. But now I am ok with it as it would not be the same with out him.

    I loved and adored Big Mike…Im so sad for Omarosa, his family and friends. I loved all of his movies and I own them all. Tom’s story made me laugh and the emotion was so right. Leno is such a player, it felt phoney.
