Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson NOT Getting Divorce, Despite Report (EXCLUSIVE)
Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson are NOT on the brink of a $400 million divorce, despite a new National Enquirer report claiming the couple’s long marriage is crumbling because of “substance abuse issues.” Gossip Cop can exclusively bust the story.
According to the outlet, Hanks and Wilson “are battling over their booze and drug-addicted son Chester” and “also spiraling toward a battle over their $400 million fortune.” Chester goes by the rap persona Chet Haze, whose struggle with substance abuse the Enquirer says has helped to drive his parents apart. “Tom and Rita are at wit’s end over Chester. He’s destroying their family,” explains a so-called “source” for the magazine.
The Enquirer’s sister publication Star has repeatedly (and falsely) claimed there is trouble in the marriage, with stories that Gossip Cop has correctly debunked in the past. Now the Enquirer is trying to make it seem as though there’s some kind of history of marital discord that’s been made worse by Hanks and Wilson’s son’s behavior, and Hanks disagreeing with Wilson about how to handle it.
Interestingly, the tabloid can point to no actual evidence whatsoever of Hanks and Wilson fighting so badly over Haze that it would lead to a divorce. In fact, the Enquirer gets caught spreading a lie. The outlet says Wilson took an emergency leave from her Broadway show “Fish In The Dark” so that she and Hanks could deal with Haze.
But we know that’s not true. Wilson had to leave the show because she was diagnosed with breast cancer and had a double mastectomy. Wilson revealed that news on Tuesday, after the Enquirer had already gone to print with this nonsense.
“I think Rita’s finally had it with Tom acting like an overlord,” says the magazine’s source. “I wouldn’t be surprised if the unthinkable happens, and she calls it quits.” Don’t hold your breath. A rep for Hanks tells Gossip Cop exclusively there’s no truth to the story.
