Tom Cruise Demands Info on Life & Style Sources and “Bigotry” in $50 Million Suit

The legal battle between Tom Cruise and Life & Style is heating up.

As Gossip Cop previously reported, the actor slapped the tabloid with a $50 million lawsuit in October after it published a July cover story falsely claiming he “abandoned” daughter Suri.

Now both sides are trying to uncover potentially damaging information about the other, with Cruise wanting to know the identity of Life & Style’s sources, and the magazine requesting personal details about his divorce from Katie Holmes, such as how often he was in contact with their daughter after the breakup.

Life & Style’s parent company, Bauer Media, is also seeking info regarding Cruise’s visitation schedule with Suri, whether Scientology played a role in the agreement, and Suri’s “mental and emotional state” following her parents’ split.

Meanwhile, Cruise’s team of lawyers is asking for material on “Bauer’s policies and practices with respect to obtaining information, paying for sources, verifying the credibility of sources with whom the writers and editors haven’t spoken.”

The movie star also requested details on Bauer’s alleged “history of bigotry and hatred toward minority religious groups and their members,” which comes on the heels of a report that the company also publishes neo-Nazi publications.

If the case goes to trial, it is expected to last about five days, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

    While I guess I am Team Cruise I just have to think how crazy (understatement) this is. Because if Life & Styles wins they are going to rake him over in their publication. It’s really crazy that this is the story that gets him so fired up to sue over. Not like the millions of other stories they and other mags and sites put him on blast for. Didn’t another mag/site say he like totally wrote out his two other kids at one point? Why this?

    I hope Tom leads the way for others to make these gossip mags and site stop printing lies and spreading rumors. The general population would be sued and ruined for life if we did this so why is it okay for the rags and paps to do it? It’s not free speech, it’s bullying and harassment pure and simple. Today HollywoodLies was found out to use haters to get their made up stories about Rob and Kristen so this is proof as if we needed any that these horrible sites/mags just make up crap all the time and use the people that hate the celebrity to spread rumors. Go Tom!!!

    It is atrocious how these Magazines just publish BS because there is no one trying to stop them. The less people protest the more brazen they become. Why try to report facts when you can make up more salacious stories because no one holds their feet to the fire over it. If more celebrities would aggressively pursue libel and slander lawsuits it might dry some of this drivel up.

    Either Life and Style had the goods on Tom when they published their story or they didn’t. Even if it turns out to be true, you can’t make up stories about people at the time you publish them. Tom does not have to prove anything. Life and Style has to prove it with the info they had at the time they published their story. I don’t think finding out after you publish something that it was actually true is a defense to slander (that’s only IF it actually turns out to be true which is highly unlikely – Tom was photographed spending time with Suri including the big trip to DisneyWorld). And the mere fact that they have to try to get that info tells you they made the story up to begin with.
