(OK! Magazine Australia)
There’s nothing Gossip Cop loves more than a heartwarming story about babies.
This was not it.
Australian OK! has a great cover photo of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes and announces, “Twins For Tom & Katie.” That’s wonderful! When are they due?
Well, not so fast.
Inside, the mag claims the couple “had planned on having two more children by their third anniversary,” but as of now only three-year-old Suri completes the family picture. So, “inspired by their friends Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony,” Cruise and Holmes have “embarked on fertility treatments such as in-vitro ferilisation, which greatly improves the odds for having more than one baby.”
So they’re not expecting twins. Or a baby. They’ve just (supposedly) explored fertility options that increase the odds of multiple births. OK, OK! - not a good start.
But the best part is how the mag treats this sunny story as a “pleasant change” from other rumors surrounding Cruise and Holmes… and then goes on to devote MOST of the space to those rumors.
Yup, the majority of the piece is devoted to recycling tired speculation concerning a 100-page marriage contract laden with strict stipulations, Cruise’s “supposed desire to ‘control’ his family,” Holmes moving out, fights over Suri’s upbringing, and so on. And when OK! isn’t busy writing about all of these rumors, it helpfully shows recent covers from other Gossip Cop “favorites” like In Touch and Star as evidence that “talk of trouble has reached fever pitch in recent weeks.”
It’s capped off with OK! concluding, “All of the talk about arguments and marriage contracts are just that – talk.”
Um, we know. Gossip Cop has been saying that… for months… and months.
But what about the “twins”? The imminent “baby joy” around which OK! based this entire article?
“As for the twins, TomKat are staying surprisingly silent,” the mag reports.
Shocking! Gossip Cop can’t believe a couple so thrilled to have babies on the way would be so… quiet. Unless, of course, there’s no truth to this story and it’s all fabricated.
There’s “no truth to this story,” a representative for Cruise told Gossip Cop. “All fabricated.”
Ah. Well then.
