Today Show Anchors Dress As Iconic SNL Characters For Halloween – WATCH VIDEO!
Matt Lauer and the rest of “Today Show” anchors took their costume game to a whole new level on Friday’s Halloween special, parodying iconic “Saturday Night Live” characters like the “Blues Brothers,” the androgynous “Pat,” and Wayne and Garth from “Wayne’s World,” among others. The segment started with “SNL” veteran Kenan Thompson impersonating Al Roker, doing a Halloween-themed forecast, and then announcing it was live from New York.
The first “sketch” featured Willie Geist and Tamron Hall as the overly hyped Spartan cheerleaders played originally by Will Ferrell and Cheri Oteri. Next was Natalie Morales falling down as Molly Shannon’s klutzy schoolgirl Mary Katherine Gallagher. Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb nailed Wayne and Garth from “Wayne’s World,” complete with their catchphrases like “Party on!” and “Schwing!”
Roker and Lester Holt not only suited up for their “Blues Brothers” impressions, but the weatherman also sang, “Soul Man.” After that Lauer played the androgynous character “Pat,” and did an awesome routine as if he were looking into a mirror with the original Pat, Julia Sweeney. The “Today Show” Halloween tribute to “SNL” ended with a parody ad of “Mom Jeans,” featuring Savannah Guthrie, Jenna Bush Hager, and Meredith Vieira as ample-bottomed moms. It’s all pretty funny.
Last year, Lauer amazingly dressed as Pamela Anderson in “Baywatch,” Roker imitated Mr. T, Morales and Guthrie were “Laverne & Shirley,” and Gifford and Kotb were costumed as Wilma and Betty from “The Flintstones.” And back in 2011, the entire “Today” cast dressed as the royal family at Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding.
