“Today” Show Makes Elton John “Bennie And The Jets” Music Video – WATCH!
The “Today” show anchors star in an amazing music video for Elton John’s “Bennie and the Jets.” Watch below!
John recently announced a contest in which fans can create their own music videos for that classic song, “Rocket Man” or “Tiny Dancer.” Though not officially entering the competition, the morning show’s staff was up to the challenge. Staffers rented out The Cutting Room in New York City for the trippy shoot.
Since “Bennie and the Jets” came out in 1973, the group opted to go totally retro. The venue was transformed to look as if it was the backstage area of a John concert, with “Today”supervising producer Neal Carter appearing as John. But the real focal point was on the anchors: Matt Lauer, Al Roker, Hoda Kotb, Tamron Hall, Carson Daly, and Kathie Lee Gifford. Noticeably missing is Savannah Guthrie, who is still on maternity leave.
Each “Today” personality received a head-to-toe makeover for the shoot, from wardrobe to hair styling. Roker and Hall embraced afros, while Lauer and Daly had long shaggy hair. Throughout the video, all lip sync the hit song’s lyrics, though it looked like Daly’s mimicking skills need some work. The men portrayed concert staff, while the Kotb and Gifford were groupies, and Hall played in the band, but by the end, they all end up partying together, joined by “John” himself.
The “world premiere” of the “Today” music video aired on Monday morning, and NBC also put together behind-the-scenes pics into a montage. “What were we thinking?” Lauer exclaimed after the video was broadcast. Hall seemed to be laughing so hard that she was crying, too. And Natalie Morales hilariously said, “I think Carson wins for best porn star costume.” Check out the videos below!
