Tim Poe of America’s Got Talent Admits to Lying About War Story

Tim Poe, the stuttering “America’s Got Talent” contestant who won over the crowd and judges with his moving story of turning to music after almost being killed by a grenade in Afghanistan in 2009, has some serious explaining to do.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that the soldier in the Army portrait he provided to the show was not actually him, and then the Minnesota National Guard said it could not substantiate his claims about being injured in the war.

Now, Poe is apologizing for passing off U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Norman Bone’s photo in combat as his own, claiming he never meant to mislead the public for his own personal gain.

In an interview with the New York Post, the aspiring singer admits that his war injury “may not have happened exactly like I said it did,” claiming, “I really do not remember a lot of things since the accident. I remember a blast going off by my head and being in Afghanistan and telling one of the sergeants.”

Poe also admits to lying about never singing prior to his supposed accident (he had told judges he turned to performing as a way to cure his brain injury-induced stammer).

“I was in a band,” he confesses. “But it was before the accident. And at the time of ‘AGT,’ when the judges asked, before I could even think about answering, my words had already came out.”

But that’s not the end of it.

Poe ALSO admits to lying about being awarded the Purple Heart for his military service.

    This is why reality tv sucks. They can’t find real people with genuine stories because everybody is just looking for their 15 minutes of fame, so they lie. When they write the stories, they come off as not being genuine.

    Here’s an idea Hollywood, stick with sitcoms and dramas.

    I agree. His talent isn’t worth having on this show. He lied on purpose for his own personal gain & didn’t expect anyone to say he wasn’t telling the truth. Kick him off and find someone who is telling the truth about their life.

    Off, Off, Off! The nerve of this guy! I smelled a wrong number with him when I first saw his clip. The “stammer” was a dead give-away. If you know someone who genuinely has that problem, then it was easy to spot the fake.

    This guy insulted and degraded our brave soldiers and veterans who truly have been in combat and those who truly have sustained injuries in the service of our country. He says he didn’t make the claims for personal gain? My foot! That is what it was all about, start to finish. He hoped to prey on the sentiments of the American public to further his ambitions, hoping that would make up for his excrutiating lack of talent. Shameful!

    It is regretable people like this cannot be prosecuted, and I include all those bar-fly warriors out there who lay claim to heroics every Friday and Saturday night at the local pub and those who claim they have been awarded combat citations, but only bought them online, in this, too. Just as despicable.

    His singing and guitar playing was average. Compare to Kevin Skinners version on a prior season of AGT. The judges were caught up in their emotions and made a bigger deal of him then they would have without the story. Poe knew his singing wasn’t that good and made the story up to improve his chances. People like feel good stories. Poe is a schmoe.

    I am just amazed they let him go through at all. It’s the ratings game, isn’t it? They had MORE than PLENTY of time to actually vette this guy prior to airing. It’s weeks and weeks between auditions and actual segment air times. They HAD to know and let it go through anyway. Maybe they did it to punish the guy. More likely, it was calculated to create drama and ratings. Equally disgusting, jmho.

    I watch AGT and I was amazed by his voice and was hoping that he will go far in the competition. Now, I want him kicked off!

    He should be eliminated for LYING, if he is not, then what kind of message does that send? What amazes me is that he would try to pull this off in this tech savvy world today. And there are so many people who make their living snooping this stuff out. However, I am impressed with the amount of real human emotion shown by the Judges.

    Had it not been for his sad story, he probably would not have gotten the approval of the judges. His talent is marginal, at best. He got a sympathy vote and wouldnt have lasted once the real competition began. Still, he should be disqualified for lying.

    it seems like he must have broken a rule by lying in his auditions. If he’s allowed to stay it would be a terrible lesson for the show to teach viewers. I think they might be hoping he will quit and save them having to kick him off. He could end up being sued for fraud as it is.

    He should be brought up on charges for Impersonating a Disabled Combat Veteran, have his Discharge status changed to Dishonorable and spend some time in Leavenworth thinking about what he did.

    I was shaking my head while reading this and wondering how ANYONE could be desperate enough to say they were in a war they were not. I saw that episode the next morning with my PrimeTime Anytime recording, and I had no idea such an accusation had been made. The show did have some notable performers though, like Cubby. Since these shows are an hour, I’m glad I can watch the show in the time it takes me to get ready for working at Dish, all because I can watch commercial free with Auto Hop. I almost swallowed my Cheerios down the wrong hole when I saw Cubby though!

    THIS GUY HAS STOLEN THE HONOR OF THOSE THAT HAVE SERVED WITH INTEGRITY & THEIR LIVES! Tim Poe has lied & should be removed from the contest. He should also be charged with fraud by civilian authorities. Then be charged by a military court & have his DD214 changed to ‘Dishonorable’. Then he should do manual labor for all the REAL heros that have lost their limbs & worse by mowing lawns and doing all sort of labor for the HONORABLE soldiers. He sings good but he makes me sick because he has stolen honor for personal gain.

    He admits to the lying about his service, his supposed grenade attack, his broken back, the photo he stole & that he NEVER received the Purple Heart. As I said he should be brought up on charges. However Tim claims he did not do it for gain but every person who goes on AGT is there for personal gain. Disgusting to say the least.

    Right after he got all three votes he walked over to Nick who asked him how he felt and the guy answered right off the bat without a bit of stutter? Nick even pointed that out and that’s when I had a strange feeling about this loser. What a big doofus. Like no one would find his ass out. Good riddance to him and his crappy hat.

    Kicked Off!!! I couldn’t care less what sort of “talent” this guy has – he is the bottom of the barrel as a human being. My father was a Marine in combat, my Husband was in the Army in combat in Vietnam. ANYONE who lies about such service, and distinquished service at that, does not deserve to be given a second look by the American people by claiming such. If he could get to where he wants to go without claiming such service, great, but NO military related person would ever feel anything but revulsion by someone claiming heroics when he was simply not there and is just stealing glory for fame. Kick him off and never think about him again.

Also, nick is the best agt host ever cuz he didn’t just go along with what the judges said, nick was beginning 2 catch on cuz when he wuz asked how he felt, he Immediately responded! and nick pointed that out. Seriously, if they do not kick this guy off, i won’t ever watch agt again!

    A father – teaching his child that it is okay to make things up, because probably, no one will know the difference. Only, this time, he got found out. The phony stammer, then no stammer when he’s talking to Nick? He is just a sick man, taking advantage of what other soldiers have done, and trying to make people feel sorry for him. And it worked, until the man who was actually in the picture came forward. Hmmmm – maybe he shouldn’t have used that picture – he may have gotten away with it.

    As the wife of a disabled vet and a friend of several, I hope the show kicks him off and the Sgt whose picture he stole presses some kind of charges. This man is a disgrace to those that truly serve.

    What he is, is a pathetic liar and a disgrace. What he can’t remember is that “He’s told his stories of heroism many times, in many ways, to many people”
    He also can’t remember that he has a wrap sheet for domestic abuse and has an 11 yo son
    .” that Kelly claims Timothy fails to support.” Which means, he’s a SPERM DONOR!!!

    I don’t trust Tim Poe but I also don’t trust AGT. Reality tv is all exaggerated. It wouldn’t surprised at all if AGT encouraged him to embellish his story. It’s like “who’s the biggest liar?”

    I think most of us want him to be kicked off, but I agree with you. Think about it y’all! Either the juges will eliminate him from the competition during Vegas week (face it, he isn’t that great of a singer) or, if by some miracle (like his imaginary injury recovery), he makes it to live shows, the chances are that he’ll be booted off the show by America, the country he “fought” for. >:( what an asshole!!!

Buuuut, by humiliation, I hope he makes it to live shows in Hollywood and the producers get some TRUE, HONORABLE soldiers to come to his performance and tell him off!!! Aaaand, I hope Nick Cannon gives him the information that nobody voted for him. That, to me, would be good enough humiliation. OH! almost forgot. They should also make him apologize to the general public and any family who has relatives serving in the war for his INHUMANE acts! >:((
