Tim Burton and Helena Bonham Carter Split After 13 Years Together
Tim Burton and Helena Bonham Carter have split after 13 years together, her rep has confirmed. The couple, who never married, had “separated amicably earlier this year.” The exact timing of the breakup was not disclosed.
Burton and Carter have two children together, a son named Billy and a daughter named Nell. Carter’s rep tells Gossip Cop that the two “have continued to be friends and co-parent their children” following their separation, adding, “We would ask that you respect their privacy and that of their children during this time.” Neither Burton nor Carter has publicly commented on the split.
The former couple met when Burton directed Carter in the 2001 film Planet of the Apes. He went on to direct her in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Alice in Wonderland and Dark Shadows, as well as the upcoming Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass.
News of the split comes on the heels of Burton’s latest film, Big Eyes, being released. The movie tells the real-life story of Margaret Keane, an artist whose wildly successful paintings in the 1950s and 1960s were fraudulently claimed by her husband Walter Keane to be his own work. Amy Adams and Christoph Waltz star as the couple in the movie, which opens on Christmas Day.
