POLL: Tiger Woods Gives to Haiti – Pure Intention, Good Publicity (Hey, Help is Help)
1:18 pm, January 16th, 2010
There’s been some confusion ever since Russell Simmons said Tiger Woods was considering donating $3 million to earthquake-ravaged Haiti, and was ”working on sending a mobile hospital with 50 EMTs to go set up a triage.”
While the golfer’s Tiger Woods Foundation hasn’t spoken yet to Simmons, Gossip Cop can confirm that the organization is definitely going to help those affected by the earthquake, although no specific dollar figure has been determined.
According to Foundation president Greg McLaughlin, “Our plan is be part of the relief effort to help rebuild Haiti by supporting organizations that provide critical resources to young people, which is consistent with our mission and previous efforts regarding Hurricane Rita, Hurricane Katrina and the 2004 tsunami.”
Worth noting: For the 2004 tsunami, Woods’ foundation doled out $100,000 in charity, and for Hurricane Katrina, the golfer gave $200,000 to set up an educational fund.
So Woods has been very generous in the past. He’s also, of course, been caught in an image-shattering sex scandal for the last two months.
In this crisis, of course, help is great no matter the context.
