Thomas Stringfellow “American Idol” Audition Video: 17-Year-Old Performs Amazing Ed Sheeran Cover — WATCH!
Thomas Stringfellow amazed on Thursday’s “American Idol” with an Ed Sheeran cover. Watch below!
The 17-year-old student lives in Arkansas, where his family helps orphans and others in the foster care system. He said of auditioning for the final season of the FOX competition, “I wanna show the foster kids that if they have a dream, they need to go and grab it, and never let it go.” Now Stringfellow’s dream is on its way to coming true.
Harry Connick, Jr. was first impressed with the teen’s “genius” name, but then even more pleased by his take on Ed Sheeran’s “Give Me Love.” Asked about the timing he chose, Stringfellow thought he had screwed up until the judge said he actually loved it. Keith Urban particularly appreciated that the contestant didn’t simply copy Sheeran.
“I like that even when you do an Ed song, you kind of naturally fall into your own way of doing things,” said the country superstar, further telling Stringfellow, “I like your vibe a lot, man.” Jennifer Lopez, too, liked that the try-out was “very individual to you.”
She even went on to tell Stringfellow, “There was a lot going on there that was saying to me ‘artist.'” Check out the full video below!
