Simon Monjack, the late Brittany Murphy‘s husband, is suing Warner Brothers for wrongful death.

Monjack claims the studio is responsible for Murphy’s death in December, believing the cancellation of her contract for a sequel to Happy Feet triggered a heart attack, according to an interview with The Daily Beast.

“She was devastated,” Monjack says of Murphy in the wake of the Warner Brothers decision, just two weeks before she died.

“They killed her.”

A month before the Happy Feet news, Murphy had been dropped from The Caller, amid reports that Monjack (on the set in Puerto Rico) had been intoxicated and frequently difficult. Monjack denies the rumors.

Sharon Murphy, the late actress’ mother, stands by Monjack’s assessment that career stress caused Murphy’s early death.

The Los Angels Coroner’s Office has yet to release a cause of death for the 32-year-old star.
