The Weeknd Drops Out Of Rihanna’s “Anti World Tour”
In a statement, Live Nation says, “Due to some unforeseen changes with upcoming projects, The Weeknd will no longer be joining Rihanna on her upcoming international ‘Anti World Tour.'” Neither star has commented about the unexpected change on social media. The Weeknd, however, cryptically tweeted late Tuesday, “It’s my job to make music… not to convince you.”
As Gossip Cop reported, it was revealed in November that The Weeknd, along with Big Sean and Travis Scott, would be one of the opening acts for the “Anti World Tour.” He was expected to participate in select European dates, with that leg of the tour beginning June. It’s unclear if he will be replaced.
Rihanna’s tour has been a bumpy ride so far. Initially slated to start February 26, the singer postponed the first eight shows to work out production kinks. The concerts finally kicked off on March 12 in Jacksonville.
Rihanna at least seemed happy with the way Tuesday night’s show went. On Wednesday morning, she posted an aerial photo of the jam-packed Verizon Center, writing, “DC thank you so much for the love!!! #soldowt #show7 #ANTIWORLDTOUR.” Fortunately, the rest of the U.S. run won’t be affected by The Weeknd’s cancellation, as Scott continues to open the North American stops.
