“The View” Refuses To Mention UCC Shooter Chris Harper Mercer By Name (VIDEO)
“The View” co-hosts said on Friday’s show that they refuse to mention the name of Umpqua Community College shooter Chris Harper Mercer so as not to glorify the killer behind the Oregon school massacre. Watch the video below.
As Gossip Cop reported, the gunman opened fire on students and faculty at the UCC campus on Thursday, killing more than 10 people and injuring many more. The shooter, Chris Mercer, died as well, although it’s unclear at this time if he was shot by police or committed suicide.
During a discussion on “The View” about the horrific events, co-host Joy Behar insisted, “I’m not going to say his name,” in reference to Mercer. Michelle Collins did, however, bring up Chris Mintz, a bystander and army veteran who’s being heralded as a hero for charging at Mercer and getting shot several times in the process. Collins added, “We have to stop glorifying” the killers in these type of stories. It should be noted, however, that the producers aired a photo of Mercer.
Behar went on to express shock over the number of mass shootings that have taken place in 2015, saying, “America is reeling from the 45th school shooting this year alone. 45 this year. You know what, the hair on the back of my neck just stood up.” Watch the video below, and tell Gossip Cop what you think about the hosts of “The View” refusing to say the name of the UCC shooter.
EDITOR’S NOTE: While Gossip Cop has named Mercer in articles, we understand the stance of “The View” hosts in not wanting to glorify the murderer, who killed innocent students and faculties and irrevocably destroyed their grieving families and friends as well.
