“The View” Reacts To Kanye West, Donald Trump Meeting – WATCH VIDEO
Just after kicking off the live broadcast, Whoopi Goldberg introduced the first Hot Topic: West’s meeting with Trump at Trump Tower earlier this morning. She then shook her head to show disapproval. “I don’t know what really else is there to say,” Goldberg announced.
Joy Behar then quipped, “I think the nose says it all,” referring to the moderator’s Rudolph-inspired accessory. Sara Haines wondered if West was interested in an “inauguration performance” or being a “brand ambassador,” an idea with which Sunny Hostin agreed. “I would think if he is going to perform at the inauguration, that could mean something,” she said.
Hostin continued, “We know that Trump has had terrible outreach to the African-American community, and we know, whether or not you love him or hate him–” At that point, Goldberg interjected to say she doesn’t think using West is “gonna help,” but her colleague continued, “Whether you love him or hate him, it could be a symbolic gesture.”
“I also think that if you think about Kanye West, he was the person after Hurricane Katrina that said, ‘George Bush doesn’t care about black people.’ And George Bush said that was a real low point for his presidency,” Hostin continued. “So if you see that outreach with President-elect Trump and Kanye West, perhaps that’s something.”
And while Behar joked that West could be “Secretary of Selfies,” Jedediah Bila had similar thoughts to Hostin, speculating that the meeting could be a part of “outreach to young people.” Noting that “people often say Republicans ignore pop culture,” the co-host suggested Trump may be trying to bridge the gap.
“If that’s why he’s there, then I commend him for that. Because Republicans don’t do that ever, and he would be the first Republican that I would’ve seen in a long time to make that kind of effort,” Bila said. Goldberg, however, still wasn’t having it. Watch below.
