“The View” Debates: Mama June Shannon Weight Loss Surgery – WATCH VIDEO
“The View” co-hosts on Monday debated Mama June Shannon’s massive weight loss after surgery and the concerns such health issues raise. Watch below.
Shannon, best known for “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo,” lost nearly 300 pounds, and documented the experience for the reality show, “From Not To Hot.” She underwent numerous surgeries, and revealed her transformed figure on last Friday’s episode. Now on the ABC talk show, Whoopi Goldberg askd, “Does this sound like a really good idea for folks who find they’re unable to lose this kind of weight?”
Sara Haines was torn, saying, “I think it’s great for her. I’m sure she’s feeling so empowered right now.” But she also brought up the “danger of these shows that do a really fast weight loss,” noting that many don’t keep such weight loss off. “That yo-yoing is actually worse than [not] having lost it at all… That’s the only scary part.”
Goldberg remarked, “300 pounds, that’s a lot. There’s skin that’s being removed. There’s a whole resculpting that’s going on.” Commented Sunny Hostin, “Even though they lose 70 percent of their body, some of them can gain weight [back]. This is very, very drastic.”
“Well, it is,” responded Goldberg. “But clearly her life was in danger.” The moderator literally applauded Shannon for making changes, saying, “Good for her.” Jedediah Bila also praised Shannon for being “very honest about how she did it.” But, it was pointed out, many cannot afford such surgeries.
