“The View” Reacts: First Black “Bachelorette” Star Cast (VIDEO)
“The View” co-hosts on Tuesday reacted to “The Bachelorette” casting its first black lead star. Check out the video below.
As Gossip Cop reported, on Monday it was announced Rachel Lindsay will be the first black bachelorette to look for love on the ABC reality show. Now on the network’s talk show, Sunny Hostin said, “I think it’s going to be interesting. I think people are going to respond to it.”
The lawyer added with approval, “And she’s an attorney… She’ll be very discerning. She’ll be cross-examining people.” That led Whoopi Goldberg to quip that Hostin must not watch the show. The panelists went on to discuss it taking 33 seasons for the series to feature a black lead, with Goldberg theorizing, “I think they were trying to make it seem like we were not as interesting.”
Expressed Joy Behar, “It’s amazing how slowly the wheels of progress turn. It’s taken all this time.” She brought up how interracial marriage used to be illegal, prompting Goldberg to note, “We only got the full vote in the United States in 68 also.”
Said Behar, “Now we have the Ku Klux Klan behind the administration.” And, well, that was a buzz kill that ended the segment. Watch below.
