“The View” Apologizes For Eating Disorder Jokes – WATCH VIDEO
“The View” hosts apologized for joking about which eating disorder is “better” on Thursday’s show. Just 15 minutes after joking about eating disorders, Joy Behar issued an apology. See video below of the jokes and subsequent apology made by “The View” hosts.
On Thursday’s “The View,” Behar revealed she and her other co-hosts had been talking backstage about whether it’s “better to be anorexic or bulimic.” Michelle Collins chimed in and insisted bulimia was the obvious choice “Yeah, you get to enjoy the meals,” she joked before pointing to a few audience members who seemed to agree with her. “There’s two bulimics here. They agree,” cracked Collins.
Wanting to make sure everyone knew the topic was nothing more than a joke, Candace Cameron Bure interjected, “Please know that while this is in jest, as someone who has dealt with eating disorders, so I don’t want to make light of anyone that has is, but we were talking about it.”
Almost immediately viewers took to Twitter to berate the hosts for making tasteless jokes about eating disorders. For example, Twitter user @WithaSideofHope wrote, “@TheView so disgusting that you would sit there and actually make the comments you did about eating disorders. It’s not a joke! #TheView.”
Soon after the show returned from a commercial break, Behar took a moment to address the criticism. She said, “We always offend someone on this show. We’re like always in trouble, the comedians in particular. We understand that bulimia is a serious illness. We’re just trying to have some fun over here.”
