“The View” Debates: Is Donald Trump Like The Taliban? (VIDEO)
On Tuesday, “The View” had a provocative debate on whether President Trump is like the Taliban. Check out the video below.
After first debating Trump’s firing of acting attorney general Sally Yates, Whoopi Goldberg introduced the new “hot topic” by saying, “Let me ask you now: We have a leader who has repeatedly demeaned women, wants to defund organizations that benefit women, calling on the media to shut up, specifically wants to give preferential treatment based on religion — are these values really much different than the Taliban’s?”
The bold question prompted some applause from the studio audience, before the panel got into a very heated conversation on the subject. “I would definitely think there’s a difference between the Taliban, who’s beheading people, chopping off heads, and an American president who may have policies that you disagree with or maybe saying things you disagree with,” Bila argued.
Goldberg responded, “If you’re saying to the media ‘shut up,’ that’s what they do. Maybe they didn’t start out chopping people’s heads off. Maybe they started out differently… It’s tricky, because we’re saying ‘here are our American values,’ and then we’re saying by the same token stuff that sounds exactly like the stuff we’re fighting.”
Bila went on to insist that Trump’s offensive views aren’t representative of the American public, prompting Sunny Hostin and Joy Bear to point out that “a lot of people voted for him.” Hostin further said, “He’s supposed to be the President of the United States of America.”
Increasingly upset, she continued, “He’s supposed to reflect the very American values that so many us have. When you’re talking about America, this used to be the bastion of peace, this used to be the place you could go when you were tired and you were weak and you were persecuted, and you can’t do that anymore. How is that an American value?”
Goldberg abruptly ended the conversation after that to go to commercial. Watch in full below.
