“The Secret Life Of Pets” Wins Weekend Box Office
It’s no secret: The Secret Life Of Pets is a box office hit. The new animated film features the voices of Kevin Hart and Louis C.K., among many other stars, and tells the amusing story of what pets do when their owners aren’t around. And while Finding Dory swam its way to the top of the charts the last three weeks, The Secret Life Of Pets has now barked its way into the number one spot with an astounding $103.2 million opening.
The Legend Of Tarzan held tight onto the number two spot for the second week in a row, having earned $20.6 million. Finding Dory dropped down to third with $20.3 million. The new Zac Efron and Anna Kendrick comedy, Mike And Dave Need Wedding Dates secured fourth place with $16.6 million. And ticket sales of $11.7 million put The Purge: Election Day at number five this week.
Rounding out the Top 10 with $8.1 million in box office receipts was sixth place finisher Central Intelligence. Meanwhile, Independence Day: Resurgence narrowly took seventh place with $7.7 million, just edging out The BFG, which came in eighth with $7.6 million. Blake Lively’s The Shallows placed in ninth with $4.8 million. And just making it into the Top 10 in the last slot was Sultan, which debuted with ticket sales amounting to $2.2 million.
