“The Martian” Rockets To Weekend Box Office Win – See Full Top 10!
The Martian rocketed to an out-of-this-world opening. The Ridley Scott movie, starring Matt Damon as an astronaut stranded on Mars, easily won the box office in its debut weekend, earning $55 million. That makes the movie the second-highest October opening of all time, just behind another space flick, Gravity.
Last weekend’s chart topper, Hotel Transylvania, slipped from number one to number two, with a highly respectable $33 million in ticket sales. In a distant third place was Sicario, which took in $12 million. It edged out fourth place finisher The Intern, which came right behind with $11.6 million. Securing the fifth position was Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, with $7.6 million.
Rounding out the Top 10 were Black Mass with $5.9 million for sixth place, while Everest nabbed seventh with $5.5 million. The Visit came in eight place with $3.9 million, and War Room took ninth place with $2.8 million. Grabbing the final spot in the Top 10 was The Perfect Guy. It earned $2.4 million.
