‘The Lion King’ Roars To Box Office Win

(Disney)

After 17 years, The Lion King still rules.

The animated classic, back in theaters for a limited two-week 3D run, has surprised Hollywood by placing first at the weekend box office.

The re-released film earned $29.3 million.

Coming in second was the feel-bad epidemic drama Contagion, with $14.5 million in ticket sales.

And the new Ryan Gosling release, Drive, secured third place with $11 million.

The Help and the Kate Bosworth-Alexander Skarsgard remake of Straw Dogs took fourth and fifth places with $6.4 million and $5 million, respectively.

Rounding out the Top 10 were Sarah Jessica Parker‘s I Don’t Know How She Does It ($4.5 million), The Debt ($2.9 million), Warrior ($2.7 million), Rise of the Planet of the Apes ($2.6 million), and Colombiana ($2.3 million).

ok really? Hollywood is shock by this???? I mean come on, not only is it Disney, but it is also a classic and it is the only kid movie that came out this week. I mean it has to take a lot for a Disney or Pixar movie not to come out #1!

I’m surprised that Hollywood is surprised that “Lion King 3D” made so much money. After all, the kids that saw it 16 years ago are now parents who want their kiddies to have the pleasure of seeing a great cartoon movie. I have a date to see it on Wednesday. Can’t wait!!

What the suits in Hollywood should be concerned about is that apparently no one wants to see Ryan Gosling star in a movie no matter how much the PR people want to turn him into some sort of sex symbol. He isn’t the least bit sexy, sorry y’all. Also, not too many people want to pay to see Sarah Jessica Parker in anything that doesn’t have the word “Sex” in it!!! Nice lady but her acting is the worse.

Ryan Gossling is very talented as an actor, but pr poeple are calling him the next big thing. However his box office numbers arent that big,I still think he has a huge future , but he just isnt there yet .

I agree with everything but the “kids that saw it 16 years ago are now parents”…. That isnt that accurate, unless theyre getting pregnant at 16-18. I saw it and I don’t have kids. I just went to see it again because it remains my favorite movie. :D

I just wish they would keep it in theatres for a longer period of time. It’s such a classic for young & old alike.

Then that means you saw it when you were 0-2 years old, how would you remember that? And anyway, yes many of them ARE parents, if you saw it from 5-10 then that means you are 22-27 now and that makes perfect sense that people that age have kids.
