“The Jungle Book” Beats “Keanu” And “Mother’s Day” At Weekend Box Office
The Jungle Book continued to dominate the box office amid new competition, securing the top spot with a haul of $42.4 million. As Gossip Cop reported, the Disney remake had the second-highest April opening of all time when it debuted last month. Expect the film to be defeated next week when Captain America: Civil War has its superhero-sized opening.
While The Huntsman: Winter’s War has had a disappointing box office, it nabbed second place with $9.4 million. Coming in third was Keanu, the new action-comedy from Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key. It took in $9.3 million during its debut this weekend. The star-studded Mother’s Day also bombed, with a fourth-place opening of $8.3 million, followed in fifth by Barbershop: The Next Cut, which earned $6.1 million.
Rounding out the Top 10 were Zootopia in sixth, which added another $5 million to its ever-growing total, and Ratchet & Crank in seventh with $4.8 million. Melissa McCarthy’s The Boss came in eighth place with $4.2 million, while Batman V Superman took ninth with $3.8 million. Just making it into the Top 10 was Criminal with a box office take of $1.3 million.
