The Fault In Our Stars rocketed toward a huge opening weekend.

The adaptation of the wildly popular YA book about teenagers coping with love and illness debuted in first place with a take of $48.2 million.

That put the Shailene Woodley movie ahead of last week’s champ Maleficent, which came in second and had $33.5 million in ticket sales.

Nabbing the third position was the new Tom Cruise sci-fi action film Edge of Tomorrow with $29.1 million.

X-Men: Days of Future Past and A Million Ways to Die in the West came in fourth and fifth places with $14.7 million and $7.2 million, respectively.

Rounding out the Top 10 were Godzilla ($6 million), Neighbors ($5.2 million), Blended ($4.1 million), Chef ($2.6 million) and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 ($1.9 million).
