“The Conjuring 2” Wins Weekend Box Office
The Conjuring 2 scared up enough frights to win the weekend box office. A sequel to the 2013 horror film of the same name, the new movie once again stars Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as the real-life paranormal investigators, Ed and Lorraine Warren. The first flick opened to $41.5 million nearly two years ago. And now the second installment debuted with a slightly lower $40.4 million.
That was enough for first place, topping the video game adaptation, Warcraft, which came in second with $24.4 million. And another sequel, Now You See Me 2, nabbed third with $23 million in ticket sales. A box office haul of $14.8 million pushed last week’s chart-topper, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows, down to fourth place. And box office receipts of $10 million secured X-Men: Apocalypse the number five spot.
Rounding out the Top 10 were Me Before You, which came in sixth with $9.2 million, followed by The Angry Birds Movie in seventh with $6.7 million. Alice Through The Looking Glass finished in eighth place with just $5.5 million, while Captain America: Civil War sank to ninth with $4.3 million. And just making it into this week’s Top 10 was The Jungle Book. It took in another $2.7 million for the weekend’s final slot.
