Bachelorette Recap: Andi Finds Out About Eric Hill’s Death After Hometown Dates
Andi Dorfman returned to the U.S. to meet her final four suitors’ families for the hometown dates. There was beer drinking in Milwaukee, a tractor ride in Arlington, Iowa, baseball in Tampa, Florida, and a striptease in Dallas, but it was the shocking news that greeted Dorfman and her men in Los Angeles that made this the most emotional episode of “The Bachelorette” to date.
For her first hometown date, Dorfman met Nick in Milwaukee where they enjoyed a brewery tour, polka dancing, and some beer named in their honor. Later, Dorfman was greeted by Nick’s humongous family in Wausau, Wisconsin, where she faced a little grilling about her feelings. After having a heart-to-heart with Nick’s adult sister, she was asked a list of questions by his much younger sister, Bella.
Nick confessed to his mom that he feels like Dorfman is his other half, and they both started crying because she sensed a connection between them as well. At the end of the night, Dorfman and Nick kissed goodbye. “I don’t think of her as ‘The Bachelorette’ anymore. I just think of her as my girl,” Nick said after Dorfman left his home.
Dorfman’s next stop was Arlington, Iowa where farmer Chris helped her drive a tractor. She was admittedly concerned about living out of the way in a small town, but started to envision a future with Chris. When an airplane banner with “Chris Loves Andi” flew by, Dorfman was floored by his romantic gesture. Chris’ family welcomed Dorfman with open arms, and she said she would be happy to be related to his three sisters. His mother, who was once a city gal herself, assured Dorfman that she could have a career in Iowa if she wanted one. It was also clear that Dorfman loved Chris’ family.
Dorfman then traveled south to meet Josh in Tampa, Florida, where they kicked off their date at his hometown baseball field. Josh explained why he gave up baseball, and how his family is now helping his younger brother Aaron get an NFL contract. (Spoiler Alert: Aaron Murray was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the fifth round of the 2014 NFL Draft.)
When they went to meet his family, Josh was literally moved to tears, but conversation quickly turned to professional football. Josh’s parents mostly cared about whether Dorfman would be willing to travel to Aaron’s football games. His younger sister Stephanie was the only one who told Dorfman that the family football obsession would probably cause a few fights in the future. The entire family then headed outside to play — wait for it — a game of football.
For her final hometown date, Dorfman met Marcus in Dallas, Texas, where she had to figure out if she could catch up to Marcus’ already strong feelings for her. Marcus surprised her by reenacting their very first date, which of course involved stripping. After his striptease, Dorfman was pleased to admit that Marcus was one of the hottest guys she ever dated. Things got emotional when Marcus privately thanked his brother for being a father figure to him when their dad left. Dorfman was happy to see that there was a lot of love in Marcus’ family, despite their past struggles.
Back in Los Angeles, Chris Harrison gathered everyone and told them the sad news that former contestant Eric Hill had died after a tragic paragliding accident. Dorfman was immediately brought to tears, while the rest of the guys looked stunned. She broke down as she recalled the last conversation she had with him before his heated elimination.
The night of the rose ceremony, Dorfman was still upset and feeling guilty. She left the room and broke down before handing out a single rose. When she reentered the room, Josh was her first pick, followed by Chris. Self-proclaimed “front-runner” Nick was left to sweat it out, before Dorfman called his name.
Dorfman took Marcus outside to explain why she sent him home. She admitted that she just couldn’t catch up to his strong feelings for her. After mentally planning a future with Dorfman, he was visibly upset by the rejection. She assured him that he did everything right. Marcus left the rose ceremony wishing that he never told her that he loved her, saying, “I believed in something that wasn’t there.” Next week, Dorfman takes Josh, Chris, and Nick to the Dominican Republic for their dates in the fantasy suite.
