“The Accountant” Wins Box Office

The Accountant is a new thriller starring Ben Affleck as an autistic math genius who cooks the books for crooks. The star-studded cast also includes Anna Kendrick, J.K. Simmons and Jeffrey Tambor. And while the film received mixed reviews from critics, it debuted with a chart-topping bottom line of $24.7 million.
Affleck’s box office victory pushed Kevin Hart’s latest stand-up comedy film, What Now?, to second with $12.3 million, followed very closely behind by Emily Blunt’s The Girl On The Train in third with $11.9 million. Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children made $8.9 and fourth place. Meanwhile, Deepwater Horizon landed in the number five spot with $6.3 million.
Rounding out the Top 10 were the animated Storks in sixth with $5.6 million, and seventh place finisher The Magnificent Seven, which earned $5.2 million. Coming in eighth was Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life, with $4.2 million, and Sully secured ninth with $3 million. Just making it into the Top 10 in the last spot was Birth Of A Nation. The movie, which has been mired in controversy because of its director, eked out $2.7 million in ticket sales.
