“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” Sequel Wins Weekend Box Office
Cowabunga, dude! Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows fought to a first-place finish at the box office this weekend. In the sequel to the 2014 TMNT film, the turtles set off on a new adventure against The Shredder, joined once more by Megan Fox and Will Arnett. The first movie debuted to more than $65 million around two years ago, but latest film earned just $35.3 million. Still, that was enough to easily beat the competition and take first place.
X-Men: Apocalypse, which was at the top of the charts last week, came in second with $22.3 million. Meanwhile, the tear-jerker Me Before You, starring Sam Claflin and Emilia Clarke, nabbed third with $18.3 million. Alice Through The Looking Glass, which continued to disappoint with just $10.7 million, secured fourth place, while ticket sales of $9.8 million put The Angry Birds Movie at number five.
Rounding out the Top 10 were Captain America: Civil War with $7.6 million and a sixth place finish, and Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising in seventh with $4.7 million in ticket sales. Pop Star: Never Stop Never Stopping, a new mockumentary from The Lonely Island, opened in eighth place with $4.6 million, while The Jungle Book came in ninth with $4.2 million. And just making it into the Top 10 was The Nice Guys with $3.5 million.
