Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston’s split was confirmed on Tuesday. In the three days since, much has been said about their breakup, and a lot of it has been wrong. Here, Gossip Cop separates the fact from the fiction.

FICTION: Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston split because of Chris Hemsworth, according to the National Enquirer.
FACT: This tabloid tale claimed Hemwsworth convinced his Thor co-star that his relationship with Swift was “toxic,” and urged him to get the singer to “shape up” by “dumping her.” But Gossip Cop was assured that no such conversation took place, and Hemsworth was not behind the breakup.

FICTION: Taylor Swift is getting “revenge” on Tom Hiddleston by looking “hot,” according to OK!.
FACT: This ridiculous piece said Swift was “desperate” to work on her “revenge body” in the wake of the breakup. The magazine, however, had no supporting evidence except for paparazzi photos of Swift heading to the gym. Of course, as Gossip Cop pointed out, going to the gym is nothing new for the songstress. She enjoys working out, as she has for years, and it has nothing to do with Hiddleston.

FICTION: Taylor Swift’s net worth is suffering as a result of her split from Tom Hiddleston, according to Celeb Dirty Laundry.
FACT: This sensational story alleged the superstar’s net worth had “taken a hit” due to the breakup, and further said she was “jeopardizing her career.” But Swift’s net worth is not dependent upon her relationship status, and her split from Hiddleston has no direct correlation to her finances. Her fortune is not going to stuff simply because she is no longer dating the actor.

FICTION: Tom Hiddleston was planning to propose to Taylor Swift before she dumped him, according to Us Weekly.
FACT: The magazine said the British star was “contemplating buying a ring” for the performer, and had talked about “marriage and kids.” But Gossip Cop was exclusively told by a source that Hiddleston was not planning a proposal so early on in the relationship, and the allegations were “trash.”

Swift and Hiddleston were ultimately together for just three months, but the romance spawned thousands of articles. And as much as the rumor mill loves when there’s a hot new couple, the gossip magazines also love when those couples call it quits. That’s why Gossip Cop fully expects to see more stories about Swift and Hiddleston in the days to come, even though they’re no longer dating. We’ll continue to bust the bad dish as needed.
