Taylor Swift Breaks Silence on Conor Kennedy Romance: He’s “A Grown Man”

(Rolling Stone)

Taylor Swift opens up about her romance with Conor Kennedy for the very first time in the new issue of Rolling Stone.

The songstress makes no apologies for her relationship with Kennedy, who is four years younger and still in high school, explaining, “The way I look at love is you have to follow it, and fall hard, if you fall hard.”

“You have to forget about what everyone else thinks. It has to be an us-against-the-world mentality. You have to make it work by prioritizing it, and by falling in love really fast, without thinking too hard,” Swift says.

She adds, If I think too hard about a relationship I’ll talk myself out of it. … I have rules for a lot of areas of my life. Love is not going to be one of them.”

Swift also clears up some rumors about her time with Kennedy, including the claim that she crashed a Kennedy family wedding in August.

“I have no idea what happened there,” the singer admits.

“I think that story was based on the biggest misunderstanding, ’cause I would never knowingly show up somewhere that I thought I wasn’t invited to,” says Swift. “And I would never want to upstage anybody.”

As for a bizarre rumor that alleged Swift “kidnapped” Kennedy when he visited her in Nashville, she responds, “How did I kidnap him?”

She continues, “You can’t kidnap a grown man! These are serious accusations, now! It’s an interesting way to spin something into a story. See, this is why I don’t read stuff.”

That’s right — Swift swears she no longer Googles herself.

“In the beginning, when there would be a tiny news story about something that wasn’t true, I thought that meant my fans weren’t gonna show up to my next concert,”  she says.

“But now, knock on wood…” Swift says, “I feel like my fans have my back and I have theirs.”

Sorry Taylor, but he’s still in high school. He’s hardly a grown man.

  • Catca

I have to agree with Regina as I immediately thought the same thing, Conor may be 18, but he’s hardly a grown man, particularly since he’s still in high school. I get not having rules about relationships, but when you are dating someone so young you really need to stop yourself from moving fast and falling hard. I like Taylor a lot. My young nieces adore her and she’s someone in the entertainment business I don’t mind them looking up to. There is much to admire about Taylor, but she’s seems so young when she talks about romance. Much younger than other 22 year olds.

  • Emma1986

I agree. I love Taylor but I find her really immature about love, she has a lot to still learn.

  • Kyle4

Taylor still seems to be stuck in the high school mindset of mistaking infatuation for love. She may be four years his senior, but claiming love after a week with every guy she dates at 22 definitely makes her much younger in my opinion.

  • Ray

I really dont see the problem with the age difference there’s been bigger differences in the celeb world 18 year old boy 26 year old women and if you don’t let yourself fall hard then you could make a bigger mistake than by falling hard, it eould be different if she’d forcered herself on him, but she doesnt, if they like eachother they like eachother :)

  • Ray

    Sorry meant would not eould…

  • pixie1824

There was a time Kristen Stewart was 18 and Rob Pattinson was 22, and no one seemed to make an issue of their age difference. Is it because Taylor’s the older woman in this case?

  • mslewis

This child is so immature, it’s pathetic. It’s like she has no one to talk to about relationships. She only “falls in love” with these men and when they pull away, she’s heartbroken. Love is totally different than what she seems to think it is. I feel sorry for her. And, no, Conor is not “a grown man” he is a teen who is still in high school and she has attached herself to him like a barnicle. This will not end well.

  • mslewis

No, I think it’s because Kristen and Rob are in the same business and Kristen seems to be mature and fairly level headed. (Also, I still think that entire relationship is just for the Twilight series PR and when that is all over the two of them will happily go their separate ways. Poor Kristen just jumped the gun a bit too early and got caught.)

  • Just A Friend

I agree that dating an 18 year old is a little crazy. if he was 22 and she was 18 then the media would go crazy. In the end it won’t really matter has Taylor tends to move onto the next boyfriend within months. I don’t blame her. Play the field a bit now so you know for sure when you get married. She seems like a very sweet girl and I wish the best to her.
