WATCH: Taylor Swift Teases New Single “Out Of The Woods” About Troubled Love
Taylor Swift’s new single “Out Of The Woods” was previewed on Monday’s “Good Morning America.”
Scheduled to debut in full at midnight, the track is the second to be released from the singer’s upcoming album, 1989. Swift has repeatedly stressed that the record, unlike her past albums, isn’t about romance and heartbreak, and has said in interviews that dating is far from her mind.
She now admits, however, that “Out Of The Woods,” addresses a troubled relationship. “This song is about the fragility and kind of breakable nature of some relationships. This was a relationship where I was kind of living day to day, wondering where it was going, if it was going to go anywhere, if it was going to end the next day,” she says. Swift goes on, “It was a relationship where you kind of never feel like you’re standing on solid ground.”
“That kind of a feeling brings on excitement but also extreme anxiety and kind of frantic feeling of wondering—endless questions,” says the songstress. “And this song sounds exactly like that frantic feeling of anxiety and questioning, but it stresses that even if a relationship is breakable and fragile and full of anxiety, it doesn’t mean that it isn’t worthwhile, exciting, beautiful and all the things that we look for.” The song, which Swift says is “one of her favorites,” was co-written with Jack Antonoff of fun.
