Taylor Swift NOT Launching Streaming Service, Despite Report
Taylor Swift is NOT launching her own streaming service, despite a new report. Gossip Cop can exclusively correct the inaccurate story.
TMZ announced on Wednesday, “Taylor Swift Done Fighting Spotify, Eyeing Her Own Streaming Service.” The accompanying story said, “Taylor Swift is done fighting Spotify and other streaming services for royalties, and apparently wants to become the master of her own destiny by starting her own streaming service.”
The article specifically alleged, “Taylor’s filed docs giving her the right to brand a website ‘featuring non-downloadable multi-media content in the nature of audio recordings.’ Sounds like a streaming service to us. She wants to call the website ‘Swifties.'”
But Gossip Cop has exclusively learned TMZ is reaching. The superstar has no intention of creating her own streaming service called “Swifties” to compete with Spotify. That part of the report is completely wrong.
The outlet, however, also asserted that Swift was “going beyond a streaming service,” and is “looking to launch a line of music products, including guitars, guitar picks, guitar straps and drumsticks,” in addition to “organizing retreats, educational camps and self-guided online courses.” Without getting into specifics, Gossip Cop can exclusively confirm Swift does have surprises for her fans in the works. But a Spotify-like streaming service is not one of them.
