Taylor Swift To Co-Chair Met Gala 2016 With Idris Elba
Taylor Swift will co-chair the 2016 Met Gala on May 2, along with Idris Elba, it was announced on Tuesday. The theme of this year’s event is technology and its impact on fashion. Vogue editor Anna Wintour, who runs that annual event at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, will also co-chair with Apple’s chief design officer Jonathan Ive, and designers Karl Lagerfeld, Nicolas Ghesquiere, and Miuccia Prada.
In keeping with the technological theme, Apple is helping fund the 2016 gala, which according to a press release, “will explore the impact of new technology on fashion and how designers are reconciling the handmade and the machine-made in the creation of haute couture and avant-garde ready-to-wear.” Among the designers whose work will be featured in the accompanying exhibition, “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology,” are Marc Jacobs, Alexander Wang, and Christopher Bailey.
As Gossip Cop reported, Jennifer Lawrence co-chaired the 2015 Met Gala. Swift was a guest at last year’s festivities, along with Robert Pattinson and FKA Twigs, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, Beyonce and Jay Z, Selena Gomez, Jennifer Lopez, Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, and George Clooney, to name just a few. Next year’s event is expected to be just as star-studded.
