Taylor Swift reached out to the family of a U.S. marine who died in combat in Afghanistan on May 11.

The singer got wind of Sergeant Wade Wilson’s death through the late marine’s best friend, who posted a video message to her on YouTube.

In the clip (below), Corporal Josh Marreel says, “This is a shout out to the one and only Taylor Swift. I know you have no idea who I am but this video isn’t about me. This is about a good buddy, Sgt. Wade D. Wilson, who was killed in action Friday, May 11, 2012 in Afghanistan.”

The soldier adds, “Anybody that knew Willy personally knew that he worshiped you. He even slept with a poster of you in between our beds in Afghanistan.”

He goes on to ask that Swift merely “think about him,” and invites the country star to Wilson’s funeral in Texas.

Swift was obviously touched by the video, and responded by sending flowers and a thoughtful note to Wilson’s family.

Her note reads, “Wade, thank you for loving my music. I won’t forget it and I will never forget you. All my love, Taylor Swift.”

The “Love Story” singer also called Wilson’s family and asked if she could wear his army dog tags in her next music video to pay tribute to him, a source close to Swift confirms to Gossip Cop.

Taylor is gorgeous, but her loving heart is by far the most beautiful thing about her. I’ve been listening to Taylor’s music for three years now and she is an amazing person. God bless this Marine’s family and help them to feel peace even during the hard time they must be having.

it means that marine that DIED over seas died protecting out freedom. all i was saying was that a lot of times we get so caught up in our lives we forget how truly blessed we are living in this country. we wouldn’t be free if it wasn’t for these young men and women sacrificing their lives for us. THAT is what that means.

Wow are you that big of a prick and your life that jacked up that you can’t look at a touching story and just see it as that? Instead of commenting on how awesome Taylor is for caring about her fans and being humble and down to earth. You take a jab at her..wow.
I’m not a huge Swift fan but, I can at least appreciate the amazing gestures she is doing for a fallen hero.

Grow up Amy,that’s such a nasty nasty comment, you should be ashamed of yourself!….

Taylor Swift would be one of the most honest, hardworking, thoughtful young women out there…She’s always very polite and well mannered which I can say you obviously have none of those traits…I hope your Mom or Dad don’t read this, how embarrassing for them.

I would appreciate it if you could correct the Soldier and Army. He was a Marine and it’s USMC. Thank you and thank y’all for the support.

I see some nasty comments here. I don’t see why people want to take a jab at both this Marine Wade Wilson, and at Taylor Swift. She could have just blown it off and been like most singers and ignored it or act like it never happened. But, she didn’t. She opened her heart to a hurting family of a very brave young man that was lost fighting for us and for our country to live freely. Thank the Good Lord above that there are still good people out in the world. Taylor is very sweet and has a huge heart. Wade was a very VERY Brave Marine. I thank the Lord that he gave us people like Wilson. Someone who gave his all for his country and for millions he has never met. May he rest in peace and my prayers go to his family.

Newsflash: Those people overseas aren’t protecting your freedom. They’re furthering corporate interests in oil and promoting America’s rule as a police state for the world.

Granted, they don’t know any better, either, but it doesn’t take a genius to do the math behind this one.
