Kanye West did not call Taylor Swift for approval to use her name and certain lyrics in his song “Famous,” despite an erroneous report. Gossip Cop can exclusively correct the claim. As we noted earlier, while debuting his new album, The Life Of Pablo, during a joint Yeezy Season 3 fashion show and listening party at Madison Square Garden on Thursday, West played the song “Famous,” which included the lyrics, “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex. I made that bitch famous.” But Swift’s rep tells Gossip Cop the singer never gave West any approval.

According to TMZ, “West personally called Taylor Swift late last month to tell her about a lyric in his song.” That’s not true. The webloid further claims, “Kanye called her to explain it was a joke and wanted to make sure she wouldn’t be upset. We’re told Swift said she got the joke and gave him the thumbs up to release the song with the lyric.” That’s also 100 percent not true.

In a statement furnished to Gossip Cop, Swift rep says, “Kanye did not call for approval.” We’re told he had wanted her to put a link to the song “Famous” on her Twitter account, but “she declined and cautioned him about releasing a song with such a strong misogynistic message,” despite TMZ’s mischaracterization of it as all a “joke.” Furthermore, Swift’s rep tells Gossip Cop, “Taylor was never made aware of the actual lyric, ‘I made that bitch famous.'”

As Gossip Cop reported earlier, Swift’s brother Austin made it perfectly clear how the family feels about West and his song “Famous.” Austin posted a video on Instagram, where he threw his pair of Yeezys into the garbage. He captioned the video, “Getting a head start on some spring cleaning.”
