Taylor Schilling: It’s “Liberating” Not To Worry About Body On Orange Is The New Black
Taylor Schilling says it’s “liberating” not to have to worry about how she looks on the hit prison show “Orange Is The New Black.”
In her Allure cover story, the actress notes that in general, she’s happy not to rely on her looks to succeed.
“I don’t feel bound by my face or my body,” explains Schilling. “I don’t feel like that’s the biggest gift I have to offer the world.”
And the rough-and-tumble world of “Orange Is The New Black” means she can focus on the role more than on her appearance.
Schilling says, “It’s totally liberating. There’s freedom in not having to make it about how my jeans fit or what my boobs look like in a top. All I have to do now is play.”
The actress is also proud of the show’s unusually diverse cast.
“When we walk down the street, we see a huge variety of women, and that’s just not usually reflected in entertainment—and yet this show does that,” she tells the magazine.
Schilling explains that the series’ sex scenes are less rattling than the moments when she appears nude in the prison showers, including an infamous confrontation with an enemy who tries to kill her.
It was “one of the scariest scenes I’ve ever shot,” says Schilling.
As for her real life, the actress keeps her personal side mostly private, and won’t say whether she has her eye on any potential celebrity mates: “Not that I’m going to tell you about! No, no! Not really!”
