Taylor John Williams Performs New Version Of Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space” On Voice – WATCH VIDEO
Taylor John Williams performed an amazing new version of Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space” on “The Voice” on Monday. The season 7 semifinal episode featured the Top 5 each taking on two songs in hopes of scoring a spot in next week’s season finale. Check out the videos below!
For the first round, in which songs were selected by each contestant’s respective coach, Williams sang the Oscar-winning song “Falling Slowly” from Once. In the second round, all the artists were encouraged to choose songs that would serve as tributes to their hometowns, and the Portland native went with “Blank Space,” just two weeks after Swift herself performed the track on the show. As Gossip Cop reported, she also advised Williams and his competitors during the Knockout round.
Williams’ rendition of the number one hit reworked the song to lose its pop beat and have a slower pace, turning the amped-up kiss-off track into more of a warped ballad. Levine called the performance “awesome,” but could barely continue over the audience’s screams. “I love that you’re taking these songs and kind of reworking them,” said the Maroon 5 frontman. Williams’ coach Gwen Stefani went on to call him a “true artist,” and praised his “incredible” night.
On Tuesday’s huge results show, three of the Top 5 will be declared safe based on tonight’s viewer votes. Then, for the first time in the music competition’s history, a fourth spot will be up for grabs by all the previously eliminated Top 12 singers. Each cast-off will return to the stage for a final performance, with one eventually winning the wild card slot for the finale.
