Tahani, Comfort “So You Think You Can Dance” Video: Emotional Hip-Hop Dance Gets Standing Ovation
Tahani and Comfort showed the emotional side of hip-hop on Monday’s “So You Think You Can Dance,” earning a standing ovation in the process. Watch below!
As Gossip Cop has reported, Tahani has been a standout during “The Next Generation” for her energetic moves and intense expressions. For the Top 8 round, she was tasked with infusing pain and heartbreak into a routine choreographed by Nappy Tabs. The concept had Tahani and All-Star partner Comfort as a daughter and wife abandoned by their father/husband.
It was the first time Tahani really had to do an emotional dance, and one in which she and Comfort were largely separated by a wall, but still matching up their steps. The performance led to a standing ovation from the entire panel. “The two of you, it was like doppelgangers,” Paula Abdul said afterward.
She went on, “The both of you are so in sync. I felt your pain through that partition wall.” The longtime dancer further told Tahani, “I must say, this is my favorite routine and performance of you from the beginning.” She also praised Comfort, noting, “You are brilliant, and you are teaching this little one to be as perfect as you.”
“I agree. This is definitely the best dance that you guys have done,” said Maddie Ziegler. She also made a personal admission, noting how much she could relate to the dance’s concept. “I just know exactly what this piece is about,” the young dancer confessed. She also told Tahani, “And your commitment is insane. You continue to kill it each week.”
Jason Derulo was particularly pleased to see the pair take hip-hop in a different direction. “I just love the switch-up, because this shows the vulnerable side,” he said, further saying to Tahani, “I gotta agree, I think this is the best performance you’ve had so far.”
Nigel Lythgoe also said, “It always amazes me how much emotion you can get out of a hip-hop routine.” He went on to say, “Tahani, you always give 100 percent with whatever you’re asked to perform… You are one of my favorites in this competition.”
