As has been widely publicized, certain people identify today – May 21, 2011 – as the date of The Rapture, meaning the end of the world.

While most people might choose to spend their few remaining hours with family or contemplating the universe, Gossip Cop opted to check in with celebrities.

So how is Hollywood handling the End Times?

It turns out not every celeb is on the same page.

“I’m confused why does everyone think the world is gonna end today?” asks Kim Kardashian on Twitter. “Only God can determine that! But what started all of this talk?”

“Amen Kimmie!” tweets her sister Khloe.

Demi Lovato, meanwhile, is going out on top, tweeting, “If the world does end today, I’ve never been this healthy and this happy in my entire life… #notpanicked, #feelingblessed!!”

“What do u guys think?” asks Shannon Elizabeth. “Does it feel like the world’s ending today?”

Dwayne (The Rock) Johnson‘s pretty confident it’s not.

“Just talked w the good Lord,” tweets the wrestler-actor. “The world is not ending today. He said ‘stay humble and keep puttin boots to asses.’ Amen.”

If that’s the case, Christina Applegate wonders about the consequences for Rapture prognosticators: “So you think the dude who said today was the end got unfriended a ton on facebook?”

“So… Jesus has to work just one day in 2,000 years and he doesn’t show up,” reflects animation king Seth MacFarlane. “This is why the Chinese are beating us.”

Milla Jovovich ponders the logistics. “Ok, so we’ve been tlking abt #theendofdays n I was wondering, what time zone does it strt in?” tweets the actress. “Pacific standard or eastern time? Mid atlantic?”

“The rapture isn’t supposed to happen until 6pm PST,” writes a helpful Drew Carey. “So I’ll still be able to get my morning run in.”

Pete Wentz‘s preparation is a bit different. He tweets that he’s “pregaming” for the big event.

And how worried is Paris Hilton, currently in Dubai?

Not very.

“Just went jet skiing, so much fun! The water here is so warm, almost like a bath,” tweets the socialite. Later, she adds, “Such a long day in the sun, so tired. Going to bed, have a big day tomorrow. Sweet dreams.”

Even if you’re not jet skiing today, here’s hoping everyone out there enjoys a sunny Saturday!

Wyclef Jean was shot last night in Port-au-Prince, Haiti on the eve of the country’s runoff elections.

The singer and one-time candidate was struck in his right hand, and is “doing well,” says his rep.

Jean says he briefly stepped out of his car to make a phone call when he heard gunshots and then noticed blood on his shirt and sneakers.

Jean, whose hand was grazed by a bullet, says he doesn’t know who the shooter was or whether he was being specifically targeted.

He was taken to a local hospital, and has since been released.

Jean was in country campaigning for another singer/candidate, Michel Martelly.

The final results of the election will not be announced until April 16.

Jean had been a presidential candidate, but a court ruled last year that he was ineligible because he hadn’t lived in his homeland for a number of years.

Singer and one-time Haitian presidential hopeful Wyclef Jean was hospitalized yesterday for exhaustion, his rep has confirmed.

Jean is “suffering from stress and fatigue based on the grueling eight weeks he’s had,” says the rep, referring to Jean’s failed attempt to get on the ballot to become Haiti’s next president.

It is expected he’ll be released from the hospital sometime this week.

Adds the rep, Jean “plans to take it easy.”

Wyclef Jean‘s bid for the Haitian presidency is officially over.

The electoral council’s August 20 ruling that the performer is not qualified to run for the office cannot be appealed (as Jean had planned), according to the nation’s laws.

Under article 191 of Haiti’s electoral law, rulings made by the election authority’s disputes tribunal are definitive and not subject to appeal.

“Therefore there is absolutely no possibility for Wyclef Jean to be added to the list of candidates approved to run in the next presidential elections,” council lawyer Samuel Pierre told Reuters.

“So it’s over.”

The decision to exclude Jean from the election was based on his failure to meet residency requirements. The musician, who left Haiti when he was 9 years old, argued that he presented officials with documents establishing five consecutive years of Haitian residency, but to no avail.

Haiti will elect its next president on November 28.

Jean was one of 15 potential candidates to be disqualified by the council last Friday; 19 candidates remain.

Wyclef Jean is not giving up on his bid to become president of Haiti, even though he was deemed ineligible on Friday by the nation’s electoral council.

It’s been speculated the singer and activist was left off the list of 19 candidates because of residency issues.

Jean told the Associated Press today that his lawyers will appeal the electoral decision in a Haitian court tomorrow.

“Everything is correct,” Jean said, referring to an election document, adding he and his aides “feel that what is going on here has everything to do with Haitian politics.”

Wyclef Jean has been disqualified from the election for president of Haiti.

Late Friday, the nation’s electoral council announced a list of 19 eligible presidential candidates and 15 individuals deemed ineligible.

Jean’s name was on the second list.

There was no official explanation.

The Haitian-American musician and advocate has been among the loudest voices of support for his earthquake-ravaged homeland in the months since the catastrophe.

Rumors emerged late Thursday and earlier on Friday that Jean had been barred already due to residency issues, but a final decision had yet to be made.

Now it’s official, and Jean is out.

Shortly after Wyclef Jean officially announced last night his bid to become president of Haiti, Sean Penn went on the attack, telling CNN he is “suspicious” of Jean’s motives.

Penn, an activist who has spent most of his time in Haiti since the January earthquake, alleges that the former Fugees member “as an ambassador at large, has been virtually silent” since the quake.

“For those of us in Haiti, he has been a non-presence,” Penn griped, adding that he thinks Jean is “an important voice,” but hopes “he doesn’t sacrifice that voice by taking the eye off the very devastating realities on the ground.”

The actor says the nation where Jean was born “is clearly vulnerable.”

He also pointed out that Yelé Haiti, a charitable organization founded by Jean in 2004, has been accused of financial misconduct.

“He claims he didn’t do it. That has to be looked into it,” said Penn. “I’ve been [in Haiti]. I know what $400,000 could do for these people’s lives.”

In response to Penn’s claims, Jean told the Associated Press, “I just want Sean Penn to fully understand I am a Haitian, born in Haiti and I’ve been coming to my country ever since [I was] a child. He might just want to pick up the phone and meet, so he fully understands the man.”

Elections to replace current Haiti president Rene Preval will be held on November 28.

Wyclef Jean is considering a run for president of Haiti.

His Yele Haiti foundation released a statement indicating that the performer is seriously weighing a bid as support rallies around the native son who raised awareness of the country’s plight after January’s massive earthquake.

“Wyclef’s commitment to his homeland and its youth is boundless, and he will remain its greatest supporter regardless of whether he is part of the government moving forward.”

“At this time, Wyclef Jean has not announced his intent to run for Haitian president. If and when a decision is made, media will be alerted immediately.”

A Canadian newspaper cites a “source close to the government” as saying that Jean is waiting for paperwork to be processed.

Jean co-hosted the enormous “Hope For Haiti Now” event in January to raise funds for his earthquake-ravaged home country. He’s been a highly visible advocate for the nation both before and after the disaster.

Elections to replace current president Rene Preval will be held on November 28.

Among those lending their voices and support were Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand, Carlos Santana, Wyclef Jean, Pink, Jennifer Hudson, the Jonas Brothers, Kanye West, Miley Cyrus, will.i.am, Rob Thomas, Natalie Cole, Josh Groban, Tony Bennett, Katharine McPhee, Justin Bieber, Keri Hilson, Brian Wilson, Akon, Brandy, Gladys Knight, Randy Jackson, Nancy Wilson, Adam Levine, Nicole Richie, Joel Madden, Robin Thicke, Jason Mraz, Faith Evans, Harry Connick Jr., India.arie, Snoop Dogg, T-Pain, Brandy,  Julianne Hough, Lil Wayne, Amber Rose, Nicole Scherzinger, and Vince Vaughn. 

The benefit single was produced by Quincy Jones, who along with Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie, put together the original recording 25 years ago in the exact same studio.

The all-star “Hope for Haiti Now” telethon raised a record-setting $57 million — and that figure is still rising.

The two-hour telethon, which aired on every network and dozens upon dozen of other stations, drew the biggest names in showbiz to help the island nation, where an estimated 200,000 people died as a result of the January 12 earthquake.

The event was hosted by George Clooney in Los Angeles, Haiti native Wyclef Jean in New York, and featured poignant reports from Anderson Cooper in Haiti.

Among those manning the phones or giving presentations were Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, Tom Hanks, Reese Witherspoon, Bill Clinton, Leonardo DiCaprio, Nicole Kidman, Robert Pattinson, Jennifer Aniston, Ellen Degeneres, and Matt Damon, to name a very few.

The fundraiser had several amazing performances by such artists including, Madonna, Bruce Springsteen, Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, Bono, Jay-Z, Rihanna, Sting, Jennifer Hudson, Sheryl Crow, Kid Rock, Keith Urban, Stevie Wonder, Alicia Keys, John Legend, and Shakira.

The money raised was a record, and yet it still doesn’t include donations from corporations or the performed songs that one can download from iTunes for 99 cents.

The two-hour telethon, which will air on every major network and dozens upon dozens of other stations across the U.S. and around the world, is being hosted by George Clooney in Los Angeles, Haiti native Wyclef Jean in New York, and Anderson Cooper from Haiti.

According to Taylor Lautner’s rep, the “New Moon” heartthrob will not be participating in the “Hope for Haiti” telethon.

But something that should be music to your ears is the long list of musicians who will be performing during the two-hour fundraiser, which is being aired on every major network and numerous other cable outfits.

In New York, where Haiti native Wyclef Jean will host the show, there will be performances by Bruce Springsteen, Jennifer Hudson, Shakira, Mary J. Blige, Sting, and Jean himself.

Co-host George Clooney will be in Los Angeles, where Taylor Swift, Dave Matthews, Sheryl Crow, Kid Rock, Christina Aguilera, Keith Urban, Stevie Wonder, Alicia Keys, John Legend, and Justin Timberlake are slated to perform.

And Bono, The Edge, Jay-Z, Rihanna and Coldplay will hit the stage in London, where Robert Pattinson will lend a helping hand as well.

The music will be available, beginning Saturday, on iTunes and all the proceeds will go to the charities benefiting from the telethon, including the Red Cross, UNICEF, Oxfam, Partners in Health, and Wyclef’s Yele Haiti Foundation.

At the 67th Annual Golden Globes, George Clooney said his “Hope for Haiti” telethon to benefit those devastated by the earthquake, will feature performances by Justin Timberlake, Alicia Keys, Bono, Christina Aguilera and Sting.

Additionally, more than 40 stars are expected to participate in the January 22 fundraiser. The benefit’s purpose is “to show the people of Haiti that the whole world is paying attention,” Clooney explained to the Associated Press.

The New York-based event, co-hosted by Clooney and Haitian-born Wyclef Jean, will be broadcast on more than a dozen stations with Anderson Cooper reporting in from from Haiti.

The fundraiser will benefit the Red Cross, Partners in Health, Oxfam America, UNICEF, and Wyclef Jean’s Yele Haiti Foundation.

Additionally, music performed during the event will be available on iTunes. Proceeds from he sales will go to the relief effort.
