Monsters University Set to Beat The Heat and White House Down For Weekend Win



Monsters University is expected to win a packed weekend at the box office, with the Pixar prequel on pace for roughly $51 million and a second straight victory.

The animated family flick should be followed by the Sandra BullockMelissa McCarthy buddy cop action comedy The Heat at approximately $40 million.

White House Down, starring Channing Tatum and Jamie Foxx, is set to collide with Brad Pitt’s World War Z in a battle for third place.

Both movies are tracking toward about $31 million.

Monsters University, the Pixar prequel to Monsters Inc., topped zombies and Superman at the box office this weekend.

The animated family film earned $82 million in its debut.

The week’s other new picture, World War Z, the zombie pandemic epic starring Brad Pitt, came in second place with $66 million in ticket sales.

Meanwhile, last week’s champ, Man of Steel, took third with $41.2 million.

The Oscar winner joined partner Brad Pitt at the London premiere of his movie World War Z.
