Jennifer Hudson has been asked to perform a Whitney Houston tribute at the Grammys on Sunday.

Executive producer Ken Erlich says the show plans to honor the late singer and multi-Grammy winner just one day after her death.

“We’re very saddened, and we don’t want to rush into anything that wouldn’t be respectful,” he told CNN.

Within hours of her death on Saturday, Whitney Houston once more topped the charts.

The late singer’s 2000 compilation album, The Greatest Hits, has overtaken Adele’s 21 to hit #1 on Apple’s iTunes album downloads list.

As of this writing, her Whitney Houston 1985 debut and The Bodyguard soundtrack have also cracked the Top 10.

Devastated by Whitney Houston’s death, Tony Bennett called for the legalization of drugs before performing a song in her honor at Clive Davis’s pre-Grammys bash.

The crooner’s point appeared to be that Houston – whose cause of death has not been determined – was only the latest casualty of drug policy that forces people to take risks.

“First it was Michael Jackson, then Amy Winehouse, now the magnificent Whitney Houston,” said the legendary singer on stage. “I’d like every person in this room to campaign to legalize drugs.”
