Madonna, whose latest directorial effort, W.E., has received mixed reviews, was booed — before the film was even screened on Sunday at the 55th BFI London Film Festival.

Fans of Madonna, who had waited for hours in London’s Leicester Square to see the superstar, booed her after she only spent a brief time doing interviews on the red carpet and greeting a few fans.

Madonna might have more trouble on her hands with her new film W.E. than just bad reviews.

The film, about the romance between Wallis Simpson and King Edward VIII, has been panned for whitewashing its subjects’ historical ties to Nazi Germany.

What’s more, it’s now being noted that in the end credits Madonna thanks Nazi propagandist Leni Riefenstahl and anti-Semitic fashion designer John Galliano.
