An interview with Kristen Stewart on BettyConfidential.com caught a lot of people’s attention today, as part of it seemed… familiar.

The Q&A is presented as a recent conversation arranged during promotion for The Yellow Handkerchief, Stewart’s new film. And most of the discussion sticks to that dramatic role.

But at the end is a very curious bit of Robert Pattinson talk.

“So what’s really going on with you and Robert,” asks the interviewer. “Are you dating?”

To which Stewart is said to reply, “The whole rumor tabloid stuff is so obviously false to me and I knew it was false even before I became a part of it. It has been like some sort of ridiculous show. It’s like a soap opera, but filled with false realism. I don’t take it personally. It might seem real to fans, but it isn’t.”

Hmm. Sound familiar?

Take a look at this interview (with audio) from last November, when Stewart was promoting The Twilight Saga: New Moon and said of her growing celebrity:

“I’ve gotten more comfortable with the whole rumor, tabloid stuff, it’s so obviously false to me. Look, even before I became a part of it, once I sort of became a star… it’s like a show. It’s like a ridiculous show.”

["A soap opera with your name in it?" a reporter prompts]

“Exactly. With false realism like a soap opera that seems real but you’re not quite sure. It doesn’t bother me. I don’t take it personally.”

Gossip Cop contacted BettyConfidential, and the site confirmed our suspicions.

The answer to the “What’s going on with you and Robert?” question, the site admits, was taken from the previous roundtable discussion with reporters Stewart staged in November.

It was not an answer Stewart gave during her current promotion for The Yellow Handkerchief.

Importantly, Gossip Cop will also observe that in the original setting back in November, Stewart’s response was not even to a question about Pattinson, but, rather, regarding her overall comfort level with interviews and celebrity status.

So don’t give any weight to the “answer” BettyConfidential presents as a recent answer to a Robsten question.

It is several months old and taken completely out of context.

Reports everywhere this evening claim “Breaking Dawn” is going to be adapted into two movies.

The official word given to Gossip Cop from a rep for Summit is, “No decision has been made and as we have said all along we are continuing to work with Stephenie Meyer to bring Breaking Dawn to the big screen.”

HOWEVER, a well-placed source tells Gossip Cop dividing Breaking Dawn into two pictures “is the direction that it’s going in.” We’re told that from a practical standpoint, separating the story into two parts and shooting back-to-back is what makes most sense.

Earlier reports seem to be fairly accurate when it comes to timing, specifically, that filming may begin in October.

Gossip Cop will keep you posted when plans are officially finalized.

The people have spoken. Vampires get their blood racing.

“True Blood,” “The Twilight Saga: New Moon,” and “The Vampire Diaries” all scored honors Wednesday night at the 36th Annual People’s Choice Awards.

“New Moon” won in the Favorite Movie, Favorite Franchise, and Favorite On-Screen Team (Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner) categories, with Lautner also awarded Favorite Breakout Movie Actor.

HBO’s “True Blood” won for Favorite TV Obsession and the CW’s “The Vampire Diaries” for Favorite New TV Drama.

Queen Latifah, hosting for the fourth consecutive year, appeared in a “Twilight” spoof.

While Gossip Cop‘s visitors made it (overwhelmingly) clear that their Christmas love is for “The Twilight Saga: New Moon,” it looks like a wild box office weekend is going to come down to the wire between two blockbusters — one that looks to a Victorian past, and one that imagines an interplanetary future.

Early estimates have “Sherlock Holmes” and “Avatar” locked in a tight battle for 2009′s final weekend, with each film (currently) on track for about $70 million.

As of now, and it could change, “Sherlock Holmes” is edging out “Avatar.” According to Friday’s take, “Sherlock” made $24.9 million to $23.5 million for “Avatar.” It’ll be interesting to see who wins the Robert Downey, Jr. vs. James Cameron weekend clash.

When the tabs don’t have actual news to report, contrived controversy will do in a pinch — especially when it comes to “Twilight.” Life & Style declares in just such a piece, “Battle for Breaking Dawn,” that “cast and producers are at odds over the making of the fourth movie in the smash series.”

What has the magazine learned? Well, not much. It mostly recycles nuggets about Stephenie Meyer‘s fourth installment’s “serious departure” in tone from the first three books; the ongoing discussion about whether it should be split into more than one movie; stars Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner‘s rapidly filling schedules; etc.

Catching Gossip Cop‘s eye, though, was the section labeled, “Director demands.” While Summit Entertainment is “still searching for a director to helm Breaking Dawn,” the leads “are adamant about wanting New Moon‘s Chris Weitz.” So adamant, in fact, that according to the mag’s so-called “insider,” “Rob, Taylor and Kristen sat down and wrote a letter to have Chris come back.”

Gossip Cop thought the story of the “Twilight” Trio writing a joint endorsement of Weitz sounded a bit off, especially coming in the midst of a piece that just seemed to repeat every “Breaking Dawn” angle, however played out and speculative, to fill the space.

We were right to be skeptical. A source close to the production said that the three major stars of “New Moon,” while very pleased with Weitz, never wrote a letter demanding he take over “Breaking Dawn.”

Anyone who wants to write Life & Style a letter “applauding” (ahem) their “Twilight” coverage is encouraged to do so.

This one was so absurd, we almost thought it was a deliberate joke. But we got a ton of questions and were compelled to investigate.

A story getting traction today concerns the New York Police Department handcuffing “Twilight” megastar Robert Pattinson.

You read that correctly.

“Why on earth… would the hunky Rob… invite the wrath of the cops?” asks the site that started the rumor, which was then picked up elsewhere.

How about a fictional (and incomprehensible) tale of identity theft?

Pattinson “got entangled in the mazy web of law,” states the article, when a guy with “similar kind of hair” impersonated the actor, who, according to the story, had “lost” his billfold earlier. Pattinson then received a call from the police “to come down to a small food mart.” Since he had “just got out of the shower,” says the site, Pattinson “didn’t have [his] usual look,” and so the cops arrested him instead of the impersonator.

What? Huh?? This makes NO SENSE!

Hold on – it gets even more absurd.

Kristen Stewart was on the scene and reportedly “confronted the cops,” “intervening in the nick of time.”

[confused silence]

Um, what?

Seriously: What. Is. Going. On. Here?

Let’s get this straight. A gigantic movie star loses his wallet, reports it, the police tell him to come down to an unidentified store, they mistake him for a crook because he was freshly showered, and then an equally famous co-star conveniently comes by to clear things up?

Because we’re gluttons for punishment, Gossip Cop contacted the New York City Police Department, just to make sure there was zero truth to the silliest thing we’ve read in weeks. Probably months. Not surprisingly, they had never heard of any incident with Pattinson.

Fresh off his SNL hosting gig, is “New Moon” wolf hunk Taylor Lautner now heading to high fashion?

Rumors abound that 17-year-old Lautner is set to become the new face of Armani. Buzz has a multi-million dollar contract already in place for the future Max Steel “to advertise clothes and the brand’s fragrance, but Armani bosses are holding off on announcing the partnership until Taylor turns 18 in February.”

Actually, there won’t be an announcement since there isn’t a stitch of truth to these finely tailored Taylor rumors. A source close to Lautner tells Gossip Cop the Armani reports are “not true.”

For the time being, it looks like fans will have to settle for the more “casually” dressed Lautner seen on Rolling Stone‘s cover.

In just the past few months alone, Robert Pattinson has been thrown into the casts of “Dune,” Vauxhall Crossed,” and “Yellow Submarine,” without a single audition – or interest.

The latest rumor claims “Pattinson wants to play X-Men Villain” Magneto.

According to the British OK!, Pattinson “now wants to jump from vampires to characters with superpowers” and “revealed his desire to play the mutant [Magneto] who is able to control and generate magnetic fields and is an arch-enemy of the X-Men.”

What you should know, however, is that Pattinson didn’t say he had interest in playing Magneto. He was simply responding to a leading question from an interviewer about whether he had “thought about playing a superhero sometime in the future?”

The tab reports that Pattinson said, “Well, yeah, I think everyone wonders about that sometimes. My little cousin tells me I look like Magneto, so I guess that’s who I should probably play.”

But since his kid cousin isn’t a casting director and Pattinson hasn’t really expressed an interest in playing Magneto — nor can a single person we’ve reach out to confirm it — Gossip Cop is going to put a big X across this story and add it to the “Pattinson False Rumor Role” file.

“New Moon” heartthrob Taylor Lautner is hosting Saturday Night Live tomorrow, and Gossip Cop has learned that – as of now – a werewolf sketch is definitely in the mix. There are also other references to “Twilight,” a show insider assures us.

Having attended “SNL” more than twenty times, though, Gossip Cop can tell you that there is always about a third more material prepared than what actually sees airtime, so some things will be cut between now and 11:30 PM Eastern tomorrow night.

For the second time in as many days, comments attributed to Robert Pattinson have created a tidal wave of (new) speculation among fans concerning his relationship status.

We found our inbox flooded today with links to an “interview” the “Twilight” heartthrob ”gave” on a site called SantaBanta.com in which he supposedly says, “I am pretty ‘straight’” but “I don’t have a girlfriend.” The piece received ENORMOUS pick up on other gossip sites – not surprising given what appeared to be Pattinson’s atypically blunt response to questions about his long-rumored relationship with Kristen Stewart.

The piece didn’t look or sound right to Gossip Cop, and our strong doubts about its legitimacy were well founded. A source close to Pattinson tells Gossip Cop the so-called interview is “manufactured.”

Is Anna Paquin jealous that her “True Blood” co-star and fiance Stephen Moyer has hit it off with former “Twilight” star Rachelle Lefevre, who’s his love interest in the film, “The Caller?”

That’s the way it is, according to the Star.

The weekly claims, via one of its handy dandy sources, “Anna’s afraid that Stephen’s on-set chemistry with Rachelle will lead to something more” — and jetted off to Puerto Rico to see him on-set.

What a juicy story for vampires to sink their teeth into, right?

Wrong.

Here’s the real deal: Paquin recently wrapped shooting “The Romantics,” and flew down to Puerto Rico for a mini-vacation with Moyer before they start another season of “True Blood.”

A rep for Paquin similarly scoffed at the story, and told Gossip Cop it was “not true.”

According to a so-called “source,” the buffed up actor’s “self-esteem shot through the roof when he bulked up for New Moon, and he wants other people to experience that feeling.” That same “source” added, “He wants to open up his own workout center one day.”

Yeah, and we want to open up own all-in-one catering service and tanning salon.

Believe it or not, a rep for Lautner told Gossip Cop “this is not true.” Shocker.

An interview with Robert Pattinson in Italian Vanity Fair has created a huge stir on both sides of the Atlantic.

Hundreds of outlets have zeroed in on a portion of the interview in which Pattinson says, “I am single… almost everything that came out about my private life is false.”

RadarOnline.com highlights the line and declares that it “clears up a few misconceptions about his life and loves in an interview with the magazine,” specifically that it torpedoes rumors of a romance with Kristen Stewart.

So is this – at long last – the final word on Robsten?

Well, allow Gossip Cop to “clear up a few misconceptions” about the interview itself.

We reached out to the Milan offices of Conde Nast (Vanity Fair‘s publisher) and asked about the nature of the Pattinson cover story.

The magazine told us the article is actually a compilation of separate interviews (conducted by the same writer) in New York, at Cannes, and in Rome during the Italian promotional leg for “The Twilight Saga: New Moon.” They stressed that it was “not a specific one-on-one,” but rather a “mix of meetings” and interviews.

Most importantly, when asked about the “I am single” line, Vanity Fair told Gossip Cop Pattinson gave that specific remark during the Cannes Film Festival.

Last May.

So sites trying to pass off the “newsy” tidbit as having anything to do with Pattinson’s relationship status are seven months off.

It’s gotten to the point now where nearly any celebrity relationship news seems to have a Robert Pattinson angle.

As soon as Uma Thurman‘s split with Arpad Busson became public, we knew it would trigger immediate speculation about a possible Thurman fling with her co-star in the upcoming “Bel Ami” – Mr. Pattinson. Sure enough, Twitter talked up a possible May-December romance between the “Twilight” heartthrob and the newly single Thurman. So many of our visitors wrote Gossip Cop with questions about the speculation, we decided to make sure our doubts were well founded.

“That is actually funny,” a representative for Thurman told Gossip Cop of Robert & Uma (“Ruma”?) whispers. ”Uma hasn’t even been in the same room as Pattinson,” with whom he notes she won’t start work on “Bel Ami” until the new year.

So there you have it.

Remarkably, Pattinson hasn’t been linked yet to the Tiger Woods scandal… but the week is still young.

The sun rose in the east today, so it must be time for another wild Robert Pattinson romance rumor!

On Saturday it was Pattinson’s agent, Stephanie Ritz, who was alleged to be the new woman in his life. (Um, she wasn’t.)

Now it’s… (drum roll)… “X Factor” star Lucie Jones!

The Daily Star claims one of Pattinson’s sisters has arranged “a romantic rendezvous” between her superstar brother and 18-year-old Jones. (Because, as everyone knows, Pattinson has a very difficult time meeting women.)

According to the story, the “Twilight” heartthrob is a “huge fan” of Jones, who says, “His sister got in touch with me after seeing me on the show and asked if I wanted to come to dinner… a couple of weeks ago.” Jones couldn’t make dinner that night but says, “We are still in touch, though, and are going to go to dinner or something next week.”

Is it just Gossip Cop, or does this “romantic rendezvous” sound tenuous at best (and platonic)?

“I really, really fancy him,” Jones continues. “Kristen Stewart had better watch out!”

Gossip Cop can’t believe someone reported these quotes with a straight face and claimed a romance between Pattinson and his “X Factor” admirer.

Robert Pattinson fans are fighting back.

Their favorite shy superstar hounded relentlessly by paparazzi, many of Pattinson’s admirers have taken to the Internet in a big way. They’ve broadcast a united message to the photog community expressing disgust with what they see as grossly invasive practices.

“He Doesn’t Want This, Neither Do We,” is the banner taken up by major Pattinson fan sites, addressing the paparazzi who have turned the “Twilight” star’s life upside-down. “Enough is enough,” declares ThinkingOfRob.com, “Because no person deserves this, celebrity or not. There are limits and you have gone too far.”

The most striking element of the campaign is a collection of hundreds of photographs contributed from fans across the world who pose with their hands covering their faces in protest. “This is our way of saying leave him alone,” explain the site proprietors who have collaborated on the effort.

First, “Breaking Dawn” has NOT been given the green light, despite what certain blogs and foreign language publications claim. Gossip Cop will be closely monitor the situation to bring you breaking news when we hear it.

Moving along to Pattinson’s other projects, “Unbound Captives” is still on the actor’s slate, but no start date has been set for the film.  

And “Bel Ami” will still begin filming in February, although the locations haven’t been locked down yet.

Want evidence that Taylor Lautner is becoming incredibly famous? The Internet is boiling over with rumors about his sexuality.

Specifically, whether the “New Moon” werewolf is dating a gentleman named Sean Fox Zastoupil.

One site places the two together on a “private shopping trip” at Kitson (where “inside sources” claim “they really had a blast”). Others are reading an awful lot into Lautner’s recent Rolling Stone interview, in which he says he’s “possibly” dating someone, but won’t say who. When the magazine refers to his status “as a young person trying to figure out his sexual identity in the world,” Lautner responds, “OK. I see where you’re going. Interesting choice.”

Rolling Stone: “It is a possibility.”

Lautner: “There’s a lot of rumors out there.”

Apparently, merely observing that there are rumors out there about yourself (and not denying them) is enough to stir speculation.

But here is “were” it should end with this wolf. A representative for Lautner, who’s been linked romantically to his “Valentine’s Day” co-star Taylor Swift, told Gossip Cop the Zastoupil rumors are “absolutely not true.”

Let’s see: Take a hugely successful franchise – say, “Twilight” – and add an alleged “feud” between two of its big stars – say, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner – and what do you have? The ingredients for a cliché tabloid story.

“A secret real-life feud between on-screen rivals Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner is threatening to boil over into the public arena and is proving a nightmare for Twilight producers,” begins a piece in Famous magazine.

The article goes on to say, “Rob and Taylor have a working relationship but that’s where it ends. They can just about stand to be in the same vicinity for the fans at public appearances, but once the cameras are gone the bitching begins – and it’s getting a whole lot worse.”

Really?!

And what do you suppose the (fake) friction is over?

A so-called “source” tells Famous, “They’re competitive about everything from girls to their physiques.”

Not true and… not true.

But here’s Gossip Cop’s favorite part. The “source” says, “There’s a reason Kristen [Stewart] is always between them in photos… They can’t stand to be around each other and despise having to pretend.”

Or…

Maybe, just maybe, they pose according the universal convention of “boy-girl-boy.”

“Rob & Kristen Eager for Baby” announces the always (ahem) reliable National Enquirer.

Oh, boy.

“Great news!” the tab trumpets. “A baby ‘vampire’ will be winging its way to ‘Twilight’ co-stars – and off-screen lovers – Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson.”

Yeah, this is going to be even sillier than we thought.

A “source close to the couple” tells the tabloid, “Kristen and Rob want to have kids.” “While they initially felt they were too young, those fears seem to have evaporated,” the source continues, “They feel having a baby would cement their love.”

A “close source” confides the two “would like to be married before having a baby… but if Kristen gets pregnant before they get hitched, that’s OK, too.”

Curious about how the Enquirer backs up its bombshell assertions?

“Back in July, an Australian publication claimed Kristen was pregnant… it turned out she was not pregnant… but they’re working on it.”

You mean this Australian publication? The one that was – as the Enquirer admits – 100% wrong?

Oh, but that’s not all! “The starry-eyed stars were recently snapped holding hands at a Paris airport and were seen cuddling at a concert in August,” the Enquirer whispers.

Cuddling and holding hands??

For two people who supposedly hate each other, they spend a lot of time looking anything like it.

Speaking of absurd “love triangles,” this had to be the silliest recurring rumor of the summer.

“Taylor Swift warns Kristen Stewart: Hands off my man,” screams the headline of a story in Now magazine.

Yep, you read that right.

The mag continues, “Furious Taylor Swift feels threatened by Kristen Stewart’s flirting with her Twilight co-star Taylor Lautner.”

Really?!

According to Now, “Taylor and Kristen have been photographed constantly at film premieres – and it’s getting on the country singer’s nerves.”

But, um… Now does know they’re co-stars promoting a film, right?

Well, either Now made this up entirely or they have a completely miserable source because their so-called “source” claims that, despite Stewart being reportedly linked to Robert Pattinson, Swift believes “she’s secretly longing to get her hooks into Taylor even though they’re just good friends.”

Gossip Cop checked with people close to Swift, and frankly they were speechless. Nevertheless, when they were able to formulate words, they told us that Now‘s story is — wait for it — totally ridiculous.

Vampires and werewolves are Hollywood’s new kings.

Sources tell Gossip Cop “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” has set a (non-summer) weekend box office record, taking in an astounding $140.7 million since it opened nationwide at midnight on Thursday.

The film’s record-smashing first night paved the way for a three-day haul that “eclipses” all previous weekend windfalls (except summer’s “The Dark Knight” and “Spider-Man 3″).

The estimated international box office take for the three days is $258.8 million.

OTHER MILESTONES & NOTES:

- $140.7 million playing at 4,024 theaters for a per theater average of $34,965.

- Best single opening day ever surpassing THE DARK KNIGHT ($67.2 million)

- Biggest 2 day total to reach $100 + million ($115.9 million to surpass THE DARK KNIGHT’s $114.8 million)

- Biggest November opening in history surpassing HARRY POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE ($102.7 million)

- 3^rd biggest opening weekend ever surpassing PIRATES OF THE CARRIBEAN: DEAD MANS CHEST ($135.6 million)

- Best gross for midnight shows ever at $26.3 million surpassing HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE ($22.2 million)

As we reported earlier, a record-setting night turned into a record-setting day for “The Twilight Saga: New Moon.”

Estimates place the film’s November 20 take at a staggering $72.7 million, beating the incredible first days by “The Dark Knight” and “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.”

Gossip Cop will follow the box office as more records (may) fall this weekend.

Vampire fever hit New York City as “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” staged a special Manhattan event with the cast on the night the film opened to record-setting midnight screenings. Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and others walked the red carpet outside Landmark Sunshine Cinema early in the evening (PHOTOS HERE), and Ashley Greene and Kellan Lutz joined Peter Facinelli later for the after-party at the Box (PHOTOS HERE).

Taylor Lautner turned in early, and was bright eyed outside The Today Show this morning (PHOTOS HERE).
