Robert Pattinson‘s popularity is comparable to Titanic-era Leonardo DiCaprio‘s, according to Pattinson’s Water for Elephants co-star, Reese Witherspoon.

“It was that kind of fervor about a person,” the actress tells MTV about her experience with the Twilight heartthrob.

“The women lining up outside the set – it was unbelievable – until 5:00 in the morning waiting to just glimpse him.”

Witherspoon admits that she understands where the adoration comes from. “He is extraordinarily attractive. I’m not gonna lie.”

More than that, she’s impressed by how Pattinson has stayed grounded as he rockets to superstardom.

“Robert is such a great guy from a great family. That’s the thing that’s so funny,” says Witherspoon. “He’s not really this bad boy; he’s just a great guy and really worked hard on Water for Elephants.”

The cause of death remains unclear, though she was diagnosed with lung cancer five years ago.

Stuart first rose to fame in the 1930s, appearing in films such as The Invisible Man, Poor Little Rich Girl, and Here Comes The Navy.

Her work in “Titanic” led to an Oscar nomination, making her the oldest person to ever be nominated. She was 87 when the film hit theaters in 1997.

Her memoir, “I Just Kept Hoping,” was released in 1999. A year later, she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

She celebrated her 100th birthday on July 4.

A “bombshell claim” in the National Enquirer purports that Kate Winslet‘s recently concluded marriage to Sam Mendes “never stood a chance against her enduring love” for Leonardo DiCaprio.

The tab “has learned” that the two Titanic stars “have shared an intimate relationship for more than a decade,” and that their “emotional bond also helped wreck” Winslet’s first marriage to Jim Threapleton.

According to an Enquirer “source,” Winslet and DiCaprio constantly talk on the phone, and “she opens up to him about absolutely everything.” The source tells the tab their relationship “made things with Sam unfixable.”

The bond forged during Titanic supposedly grew even stronger when Winslet and DiCaprio co-starred again in Revolutionary Road, directed by Mendes. The Winslet-DiCaprio closeness allegedly turned off Mendes and eventually destroyed his marriage with Winslet.

Hold on.

Let’s get this straight.

While dating a number of women over more than a dozen years, Leonardo DiCaprio somehow managed to be so “friendly” with a former colleague that he managed to end two of her marriages?

And Sam Mendes was so uncomfortable with his wife’s friendship with DiCaprio while directing their second movie together, he split with her two years later?

We’re not buying it.

A source close to DiCaprio assures Gossip Cop there’s nothing at all to the rumor.

“They are friends… like brother and sister,” says the DiCaprio confidante.

Once again the Enquirer expects readers to make a titanic leap of faith with very little to save it from sinking.

There’s a new #1 at the all-time domestic box office.

Avatar has now made more than $601 million in North America, edging past director James Cameron‘s own Titanic, whose $600.8 million total occupied the top spot for twelve years.

The futuristic sci-fi spectacular is already the all-time #1 worldwide. It broke Titanic‘s domestic record late Tuesday, after just 47 days of release, and on the same day it received an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture.

It’s official.

This morning Avatar passed Titanic to become the all-time box office champion.

The sci-fi spectacular has just surpassed $1.8 billion worldwide, the total Titanic grossed back in 1997-98.

Yes, the new film’s grosses are aided by higher ticket prices for 3D screenings and inflation. But #1 is #1, and Avatar now holds the title.

Domestically, Titanic is still at the top with $600.8 million, but Avatar is on pace to earn that distinction shortly.

In other box office news, The Twilight Saga: New Moon has topped the $700 million mark worldwide.

The final numbers are in, and as predicted “Avatar” raked in $54.4 million over the four-day Martin Luther King Jr. Day weekend, bringing its domestic total to $504.9 million.

“Avatar,” which had a big night at the Golden Globes, including a best film win, trails only “The Dark Knight” ($533 million) and “Titanic” ($600 million) on the all-time box office charts.

Internationally, “Avatar” has made $1.6 billion, second only to “Titanic,” which grossed $1.8 billion.

Avatar has hit $1.6 billion worldwide, creeping closer to the all-time box office champ, Titanic.

The James Cameron epic scored its fifth straight domestic box office win, earning $41.3 million in the three days beginning Friday. It should pass $500 million in North America on Monday.

It’s now the third-highest grossing domestic movie ever at $491.8 million, behind Titanic and The Dark Knight.

Aided by word of mouth, crossover appeal, higher 3D ticket prices, and staggering staying power into its second month, Avatar is now roughly $237 million behind Titanic for the all-time crown.

It took Titanic 98 days to reach the total Avatar has amassed in just thirty-two.

Christmas keeps going and going for James Cameron.

Thanks to Avatar‘s unrelenting box office might over the holidays and into the new year, the director is set to have the two highest-grossing films in history in a few days from now.

That’s right — Avatar has not only topped $1 billion in worldwide receipts, but will soon snag the #2 spot in box office history, right below Cameron’s own Titanic.

Boosted by enormous overseas business and 3D ticket prices, the sci-fi epic has shot to the #4 spot already, with Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest in its sights and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (the current #2) less than $100 million away.

Whether the film can come close to Titanic‘s mind-blowing $1.8 billion haul remains to be seen. But Avatar‘s blue aliens are seeing some serious green.
