Ben Affleck’s bank robber drama, ‘The Town,’ has opened in the top spot at the box office, beating three other new releases.

The gritty crime film earned $23.8 million for the weekend, higher than most analysts predicted.

Teen comedy ‘Easy A’ finished in second place, with $18.2 million, while horror-in-the-elevator flick, ‘Devil,’ rounded the top three with $12.6 million.

The dream-based, consciousness-warping Leonardo DiCaprio movie Inception, directed by The Dark Knight’s Christopher Nolan, topped the weekend box office with $60.4 million.

After two weekends in theaters, Eclipse continues to be strong.

The third installment in the Twilight Saga has earned $33.4 million this weekend at the box office in North America, bringing its total to $237 million domestically. Plus, the international grosses, Eclipse has earned $456 million worldwide.

According to Summit, the movie’s actual four-day North American (Friday through Monday) haul at 4,468 locations was $83.6 million.

Buzz built over the weekend about the upcoming premiere for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. While the movie won’t be released until the end of June, the series’ popularity and the logistics of bringing together the large ensemble cast means Summit Entertainment had to make arrangements far in advance.

Summit: No Plans Yet for Second “Eclipse” Trailer

After the trailer for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse debuted yesterday, we got a lot of questions about whether a second, longer version was already planned for release.

Gossip Cop spoke with a rep for Summit Entertainment who told us there will (of course) be a new trailer at some point, but right now there’s “no talk… nothing in the works.”
