After the enormous success of The Lion King‘s theatrical re-release in 3D, Disney decided to put four more of its animated classics back in multiplexes.

Beauty and the Beast 3D will be first, hitting theaters in January 2012.

Real Steel is the real deal.

Hugh Jackman‘s robot boxing movie punched out the box office competition with a $27.3 million haul.

The Ides of March, a political thriller starring Ryan Gosling and George Clooney, came in second with $10.4 million.

And Dolphin Tale swam to third with $9.2 million.

Dolphin Tale flippered off Brad Pitt‘s Moneyball for the weekend box office crown.

Dolphin Tale took in $14.2 million, followed by Moneyball with a $12.5 million haul.

Coming in third was The Lion King 3D with $11.1 million in ticket sales.

‘The Lion King 3D’ has clawed ahead of Brad Pitt’s ‘Moneyball’ for first place at the box office this weekend with a take of $22.1 million.

‘Moneyball,’ a true-life baseball story which also stars Jonah Hill and Philip Seymour Hoffman, slid into second with $20.6 million.

Coming in a close third is the kiddie flick, ‘Dolphin Tale,’ which earned $20.3 million at the box office.

The animated classic, back in theaters for a limited two-week 3D run, has surprised Hollywood by placing first at the weekend box office.

The re-released film earned $29.3 million.
