Star Trek Into Darkness Wins Weekend Box Office; Iron Man 3 Takes Second Place



Star Trek Into Darkness beamed its way up to the top of the box office in its debut weekend, earning $70.6 million.

Getting knocked off its previous perch and coming in second was Iron Man 3 with $35.2 million.

The Great Gatsby took third place with $23.4 million.

Iron Man 3 won the weekend at the box office, beating the highly-anticipated The Great Gatsby, which debuted in second.

Iron Man 3 took in $72.4 million to keep the top spot.

Gatsby came in a strong second with $51.1 million.

And in a distant third was Pain and Gain with $5 million.

VIDEO mixed old and new school on Thursday’s “American Idol” results show, where he performed “Bang Bang” from The Great Gatsby soundtrack.

The Black Eyed Peas front man’s performance began in black and white before seguing into a colorful spectacle, complete with footage from the highly-anticipated movie.

The Great Gatsby had its glamorous world premiere in New York on Wednesday night, with stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan walking the red carpet.

Carey Mulligan graces the May cover of Vogue as Daisy Buchanan, her character from The Great Gatsby.

The Oscar nominee stars as the classic literary character in the highly-anticipated Baz Luhrmann film adaptation co-starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

Mulligan did extensive research for the role, drawing inspiration from Zelda Fitzgerald, and found a similarity between Fitzgerald, Buchanan, and even the Kardashians.
