Skyfall Soars to HUGE Box Office Win with Biggest James Bond Opening Ever

Bond is back in a BIG way.

Skyfall, the 23rd movie in the James Bond franchise, has easily won the weekend box office with a staggering $87.8 million haul, giving it the biggest opening in the spy series’ long history.

The movie marks Daniel Craig’s third outing as Agent 007.

Last weekend’s top earner, the animated Wreck-It Ralph, finished  in second with $33.1 million.

Denzel Washington’s airline pilot drama Flight nabbed third place with $15.1 million in ticket sales.

The animated new release about the trials and tribulations of being a video game villain easily won the weekend with $49.1 million in ticket sales, beating the debut of Denzel Washington’s drama Flight, which came in a distant second with $25 million.

Ben Affleck’s political thriller Argo nabbed third place with $10.2 million.

The Liam Neeson thriller earned $22.5 million to stay in the top spot, just ahead of Ben Affleck’s new release Argo ($20.1 million) and Ethan Hawke’s horror film Sinister ($18.3 million).

Liam Neeson has a lot to be proud of these days.

The actor’s action sequel Taken 2 won the weekend box office title with $50 million.

That sum easily secures the top spot over last week’s champ Hotel Transylvania, which took second place with $26.3 million.

Nabbing third was college a cappella group comedy Pitch Perfect with $14.7 million in ticket sales.
